Due to the pleasant seawater temperature and plenty of sunshine ( but a bit dull and foggy today ) , the Xiapu mudflats are rich in kelp, laver, oyster and yellow croakers. Locals living along the beach are mainly engaged in marine culture. The bamboo poles, fish nets and stone columns that are inserted in the mudflats are used to dry kelp, laver, oyster and other marine products. As the sun rises and sets, the tide rises and falls, the bamboo poles, fishing boats and fish nets form various spectacular scenery .

For Valentine's Day, why not a little bambino for my Flickr friends! And a celebration of unconditional love....
This photo was part of a one person show called "Italian Treasures - Icons of Venice and Florence" www.flickr.com/photos/44548980@N00/1476638355/in/set-7215... . This photo is also part of my set on Trees and Gardens. (Follow the link in the side bar to the right to see those).
Just a few minutes walking distance from the Convent of San Marco in Florence, there are several gardens that are part of the University of Florence. I couldn't go inside as they were closed that day, but this charming scene was visible from the ancient garden gate. To spend a few peaceful moments enjoying this garden and the Giardini di Simplici (one of the oldest botanical gardens in the Western world) nearby was special, given that the historic part of Florence is densely crowded with one amazing building after another, as it was in the Middle Ages....with narrow streets and no room for nature. In this dense urban landscape, to come across a garden and trees!! What a treasure!
I was in a trance in any case, after spending several hours at the Convent of San Marco experiencing the exquisitely moving frescoes there, by Fra Angelico. Maybe that is why the trees looked ... well ... kind of indigo. :o) I truly recommend visiting the San Marco Museum. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Marco,_Florence

Below are two more sculptures celebrating nature, beauty, and love, found in a garden along the French Riviera, for those who haven't yet seen them.
Another was resting on a dried up coneflower in the Cancer Survivors' Park in Memphis.

Dear Flickr Friends, it has been several months since I've uploaded an image. As you know I have a slow internet connection and have been working a lot.
However to celebrate the Solstice and share the beauty of the natural world where I live, I will be posting a new set called "Postcards of Mendocino".
This photo is by my friend Peter Temple www.petertemplestudio.com who helps me with my photography business, making sure my printer is working well and keeping track of all new software updates. He took this snapshot with a Fuji Finepix S7000 and I played with it a bit in PS.

Another one of my Tiger Swallowtails from a recent shoot with Allen at Meeman-Shelby State Forest. ~ view large
There were two of these on the Lantana on the historic square in Collierville, Tennessee. I was even more excited when these were identified. The black female form of the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail supposedly mimics the Pipevine Swallowtail, and is most often seen in areas where the pipevine is active. (various sources)
