Zaanse Schans es un museo al aire libre del pasado pre-industrial de Holanda (siglos XVII y XVIII) y tiene una colección de molinos históricos, la mayoría de más de 200 años y que todavía están en uso. También hay casas históricas, tiendas de quesos y zuecos (donde se muestra su elaboración a los visitantes).
