The Riviera Maya is a region along the Caribbean Sea coast on Mexico’s northeastern Yucatán Peninsula. It spans over 100 miles (165 km) of beautiful coastline with pristine white sand beaches and brilliant turquoise water. This world renowned paradise is home to mangroves and lagoons, ancient Mayan cities, ecological reserves and the world's second largest coral reef, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.

I shot this sunset from the veranda of our friends' house which overlooks Pigeon Island National Park on the lovely southeastern Caribbean island of St. Lucia.

This trip to St. Lucia, we stayed with our friends (We were getting tired of winter.); this was shot from the veranda of their house. Pigeon Island is a national park that's now connected to the main island by a causeway.

Love all the shades of blue found here. This was taken at Coki Beach, where we enjoyed the best snorkeling while on St. Thomas.
I know I'm milking this sunrise for all it's worth, but it's not everyday I get to see the day's first light on a tropical island, so...
At the far western end of St. Thomas, two small islands are seen - Little St. Thomas (foreground), and West Cay(background). I would have loved to explore them both, but I wasn't dressed for swimming, and besides the current between the two small islands is rumored to be quire strong. Guess I'll need a boat next time!
Located on the grounds of Hilton Barbados is Charles Fort, a fort erected at Needham’s Point in 1650 by the British Military as a defense against attack from its enemies, and to protect Carlisle Bay.
Charles Fort is the largest fort on the island and was originally called Needham’s Fort. It is also part of the Garrison Historic Area.

What if it's already mid October? Somewhere it's still summer. Or maybe I should say it's still beach weather. So here's a pretty nice beach in the Carribbean. Another shot take at the famous Baby beach in Aruba. Not sure if someone put these branches there on purpose or if that's an actual divi divi tree that died but it worked out really well from a photographic perspective.

St. Thomas can be a bit crowded, but it does have a few more secluded places where there's a good chance you can be alone. This is one of those places.

This represented a new southernmost extreme for me, edging out my prior southern extreme of Ponce, Puerto Rico (2013). My easternmost extreme of Tokyo, Japan (1972) and westernmost extreme of Kaena Point State Park, Oahu, Hawaii (2014) will both be hard to beat anytime in the near future. For my northernmost extreme, that goes to Kiel, Germany (1981). That would be the extreme that require the shortest distance (if I go directly north) to beat....

A great place to view Charlotte Amalie can be found in the hills above the city (Charlotte Amalie Overlook). I found it by accident just driving around. Sometimes I prepare for a shot, and other times I just get plain lucky.
Watching the sunset in Sint Maarten / Saint Martin from Maho Beach's Sunset Bar & Grill. I called the rock "Iguana
rock" but I don't know if it survived the hurricane. The gazebo definitely didn't. The Sonesta Maho Resort where the gazebo is received heavy damage from the huricane. They were in the process of repairing or rebuilding it last I checked. This is a great spot to watch the sunset and the ships heading to sea. This is the same view as a photo I posted two days ago. That one was during the day, this one during the blue hour.
There are some places where, when you are there, you feel disconnected from the world. Places that people that live there are so relaxed and laid back that even if you spend just a few hours at their homeland, you absolutely feel their slow and relaxing rhythm. One of these places is Little Cayman, the smallest of the 3 islands that make up Cayman Islands. You can drive and circle the entire island within 30-35 minutes. It only has one perimeter road and 2 roads across. No big resorts, fancy restaurants and touristy attractions. Just beach homes, lots of piers and a few sandy beaches. You get that experience from the moment you step in the plane that takes you from Grand Cayman. There is only one airline and the plane has only 17 seats. It's so small, that you can't even stand. Then you arrive to the airport, which really isn't an airport, it's just an airfield where anyone can get into the "terminal". No security whatsoever and that perimeter road goes through the airfield. If you ever find yourself visiting Cayman Islands, I totally recommend taking 1 or 2 days to just relax, absorb the Caribbean atmosphere and feel off the grid at a place like Little Cayman.
