A fine colour advert as seen in Liverpool's c.1955 Official Industrial Handbook. This lavish book has an immense amount of information as to the work of the Corporation, the city's amenities and services as well as discriptions of the port, shipping services and industrial activities. These included the three municipally developed suburban trading estates at Aintree, Kirkby and Speke.

Coast Lines Ltd. were a major UK coastal shipping service whose formation dated back to 1913 when the Powell, Bacon and Hough Lines amalgamated; they adopted the name Coast Lines in 1917 when they were acquired by Royal Mail Steam Packet Company. The collapse of RMSP in 1931 saw them regain independence and over the next two decades they acquired a large number of subsidiaries, including the part ownership, with the LMSR, of David MacBrayne Ltd. The British & Irish Steam Packet Company Ltd. was sold to the Irish Government in 1965, together with its subsidiary, the City of Cork Steam Packet Company and other lines were closed down. The company sold out to P&O in 1971.
