I have a feeling that they were raised in captivity - they were very friendly and I noticed that their legs were tagged. I will ask one of the rangers tomorrow. I just hope nobody will take them home as pets.
Thank you all so much for stopping by and for the kind comments and favs, They are very much appreciated!

🐻 "Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris — commonly known as the capybara — is the world's largest living rodent. It is native to South America, inhabiting savannas and dense forests, living near bodies of water. Many escapees from captivity can also be found in similar watery habitats around the world. Sightings are fairly common in Florida, United States. [As of 2020, there is a relatively small population of capybaras thriving in north-central Florida in the United States, having escaped from a conservancy in the 1990s].
The capybara has a heavy, barrel-shaped body and short head, with reddish-brown fur on the upper part of its body that turns yellowish-brown underneath. Adult capybaras grow to 106 to 134 cm (3.48 to 4.40 ft) in length, stand 50 to 62 cm (20 to 24 in) tall at the withers [ridge between the shoulder blades} and typically weigh 35 to 66 kg (77 to 146 lb)."

Trivia -
Range - Southern Colombia (the Amazons region) , Northern Ecuador and Bolivia, the eastern part of Peru, and in northern Brazil.
A very elusive, shy mammal - listed as 'Threatened' as per the IUCN list - besides animal and bird predators, they are a prime target for human hunters and poachers, as they can command up to $4000 in the exotic pet black market trade.
Also called the "Finger Monkeys" as they are the smallest monkeys in the world, full grown adult averages 4-6 inches (10-16cm) in body length, weight is around 100 gms. The tail is longer than the body averaging from 6-9 inches (15-23cm), is not prehensile - its mostly used for balance.
Primary diet is tree sap - they puncture the tree bark with their sharp lower teeth to lap up the sap but are not averse to include butterflies, fruits, berries in their diet. Unlike other monkeys they have fingernails shaped as claws which they use to climb trees. They communicate with squeaks and chirps similar to squirrels. Life span in the wild is around 10-12 years, in captivity (zoos, homes) they probably live longer by a year or 2.
