I once read an article which said “it is not always what you include in a photograph, it is what you leave out”.📘
This certainly applied here in this shot. As I studied the view below of the beach my attention was drawn to what looked like a 5 legged person behaving completely out of character, or were they in character😉
Well the very nature of the fact someone had five legs was scary enough, we are not use to this sort of thing in Cornwall, we are very respectable people.😇
Attention was also drawn to the erratic movements of this person, well I suppose coordinating five legs is a bit of an issue, not only this but said person was in and out of the water without a single pink welly on any of those five feet.🐙
In fact said person was at times up to their knees and beyond in seawater with footwear which would only be suitable enough to wear at a Tottenham Hotspur game.
I bet the hotel staff were glad to see him walk back through reception looking like Captain Nemo, dripping in seawater.🌊🌊🙈🙈

Fabulous historic "steam punk" style greenhouse architecture in Vienna (former Palmgarden), nowadays serving as a restaurant. Happy Monochrome Monday!
The first official storm of 2021 in The Netherlands brought leaden skies, choppy waters and strong winds. In fact, trees were uprooted, also along our very own canal...
But I took a walk anyway - sometimes nearly blown off my feet - around the Oosterdok.
In the photo you can just see on the far left the tall ship, Stad Amsterdam, heavily casting against the Netherlands Marine Museum. Central is the enormous, lead-green NEMO Science Museum, a great venue for all children (and adults, too) interested in science; it's a hands-on place. The name, of course, brings to mind Jules Verne's Captain Nemo; and the din of the galing winds conjured up for me the discordants of his great organ in that submarine traversing 20,000 leagues under the seas.
On the left, colorful Hannekes Boot, owned by the popular - before Covid-19 - cafe-restaurant Hannekesboom, just off the photo to the right. It's named for one of the seventeenth-century entrances to Amsterdam's canals through the protecting bollards or stanchions against possible enemies who'd accesssed the Zuyderzee (www.flickr.com/photos/87453322@N00/33011257462/in/photoli...).
PS This is for all Hannekes whose birthday it is today...

Vigo is a city on Spain’s northwest coast. Who of my generation can forget the great Disney Classic starring Kirk Douglas "2000 leagues under the sea", based on his wonderful book
One of the first Disney movies i watched as a kid,
was also the one that left the biggest impact on me.
20000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA from the year 1954
with Captain Nemo and his famous submarine the NAUTILUS!
The model for the movie was designed by Harper Goff
who did an amazing job back in the days.
The replica is true to the original scale and measures
4 feet and 7 inches/140 cm about 180 studs in lenght
and about 10 inches in width.
It has an interior in the mainroom with the big porthole.
Nemos organ, the couches and a shelf with liquor bootles.
There are powerfunction LED´s for the outside lights and the bridge.
The stand has an underwater diorama with two divers and a treasure.
The overall work in progress was about 4 weeks and a full day of photoshopping
for the presentation.
The model is dedicated to my Mum(*1955), which passed away last year
and my grandfather, who showed me the movie in the first place and always believes in me!

This is sort of a work-in-progress, since I did the set already in december, hoping to do the cover of the Vol I. I've build + shot the images for the wall, but figuring out how to get them look good enought has proven to be next to impossible with my photo editing skills (which are close to zero). So I thought I'd post this part of the image, perhaps I get the whole cover done one day...
The Palmengarten, a former kind of Botanical Garden building of "steampunk design" right in front of palaces of the former Emperors of Austria. To me the building looked like Captain Nemo's Nautilus :)
Luckily I didnt drop my camera to the lagoon when I was shooting this. In this shot, the queue of 20.000 Leagues under the Sea is the main part of the shot, and Mt. Prometheus is the background. And it really looks interesting from this POV. And you can see how huge Mysterious Island is.

This is the opposite view of the picture I posted yesterday. The Arts et Metiers metro station resembles Captain Nemo’s ship the Nautilus from the novel by Jules Verne.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is yet another fantastic DisneySea attraction. While not taking place in "actual" submarines like the Walt Disney World attraction of yesteryear, it more than makes up for that by being amazing in every other way possible. The simulation of being underwater, despite never being even near water, is quite good, and the small interactive elements are a great touch. Opening with the park in 2001, this is the last real "adult dark ride" Disney has made since Indiana Jones in 1995 and looks to continue to hold that crown until Mystic Manor opens in Hong Kong in a few years.
Some blips in California Adventure aside, it's pretty clear that Disney's most exciting work is all happening in Asia these days. Little did we know that DisneySea's opening in 2001 was signaling a much larger trend. Trips to Tokyo, Hong Kong, and eventually Shanghai are going to be required to see modern Disney at the top of its game.
This is an anonymously published postcard showing the view in Piccadilly Circus looking east towards Coventry Street. There is a double bill playing at the London Pavilion, “Mysterious Island” is a science fiction adventure loosely based on the Jules Verne novel “The Mysterious Island” in which Captain Nemo and the Nautilus make an appearance. It starred Michael Craig, Joan Greenwood and stop go animated characters by Ray Harryhausen, the film is regularly repeated on British Television as is “The Pirates of Blood River”, a British made film starring the American actor Kerwin Mathews and a cast of British actors including Christopher Lee, Oliver Reed and Peter Arne; the double bill ran from 14th July until 19th July 1962. I was aware of Peter Arne long before he was bludgeoned to death in his Knightsbridge flat in August 1983. I had read that he was a Battle of Britain fighter pilot and that he was born in Kuala Lumpur of a French-Swiss mother and an American father and became an actor in the early 1950s playing small parts in low budget British films. He was also a promiscuous homosexual who picked up young men at among other places, Victoria Embankment Gardens where he met an Italian school teacher who later murdered him at his flat just behind Harrods. The school teacher committed suicide several days after the murder by throwing himself into the Thames. On the right next to the Criterion Theatre is a branch of “Dolcis Shoes”, the company can trace its origins back to 1863 and a stall in Woolwich Market where John Upson later opened a shop called “The Great Boot Provider”. The Company became “Dolcis” in 1920 and it is believed the name was acquired from a brand of Swiss socks. At their height, “Dolcis” had 65 shops and 150 concessions in other stores, the company is now owned by the Jacobson Group. The advertisement underneath the Wrigley advert is for “Youngers Scotch Ales”, not to be confused with Scottish Ales which tended to be more like a Pale Ale. Scotch Ales were a traditionally heavy beer which William Younger & Company had been brewing a form of in Edinburgh since 1778. At the time of the advertisement the Company was owned by Scottish and Newcastle.

“The light, which lit the soil thirty feet below the surface of the ocean, astonished me by its power. The solar rays shone through the watery mass easily, and dissipated all color, and I clearly distinguished objects at a distance of a hundred and fifty yards. Beyond that the tints darkened into fine gradations of ultramarine, and faded into vague obscurity. Truly this water which surrounded me was but another air denser than the terrestrial atmosphere, but almost as transparent. Above me was the calm surface of the sea.
“We were walking on fine even sand, not wrinkled, as on a flat shore, which retains the impression of the billows. This dazzling carpet, really a reflector, repelled the rays of the sun with wonderful intensity, which accounted for the vibration which penetrated every atom of liquid. Shall I be believed when I say that, at the depth of thirty feet, I could see as if I was in broad daylight? . . .”

It's been quite a weekend! It snowed and blowed [sic] or is that sick?] and showed... sigh. We had about 51 cm (20 inches) of snow, which isn't too bad, but the winds! We were among the fortunate few who did not lose power... is it spring, yet?
So, Nemo, meet Captain Nemo. According to a news report, the "Nemo" name wasn't chosen for the famous clown fish, but for the Jules Verne character. The spokesperson for the [US] Weather Channel said, "He was a pretty tough, fierce guy." Well, new hips and all, so is Mr. T.

and from these barrels escaped lingots of gold and silver,
cascades of piastres and jewels. The sand was heaped up
with them. Laden with their precious booty, the men returned
to the Nautilus, disposed of their burden, and went
back to this inexhaustible fishery of gold and silver.
