Fence outside the Mystic Seaport, Mystic, CT

There were tadpoles in the potholes. Hope they stay wet enough to grow into frogs!

I FINALLY hosted a photo walk in the park, by my house...I couldn't believe that 30 brave souls came out in the dark on a below freezing, frosty, foggy morning...but when the sun finally broke through the fog, it was so worth it.....it became Magical!

Up the stairs to enter the Hermitage in St Petersburg Russia. My head is still spinning at the beauty and opulence of this museum...it's collections were pretty amazing too! They say that if you spent only 30 seconds looking at every item on display, you would be there for over 8 years!

This is the "cookie man"....he loves dogs and always has a pocket full of doggie-treats with him. After we chatted and my dog got her reward, we headed off in different directions. But my dog wouldn't walk, sat doen and kept looking back at him. I turned around to watch him heading off into the amazing light. It was almost like my dog was willing me to turn around and look...it was my reward..

December 20, 2015 - Day 354 - 365 Day Challenge

The Beauty of Bokeh - HMM!

My third day of being sick and pretty much housebound! So the easiest thing to do was play with the Christmas decorations in front of the Christmas tree.

365-1

I seriously considered photographing a bowl of nuts, because that's what I think I am right now for attempting a third 365 challenge.

Instead I went with this....there is so much snow here in the Lower Mainland (Vancouver BC). It is well below 0c, but we decided to go for a quick drive to go find barns in the snow to photograph....this was my favourite barn, but I wasn't happy with my photo....the snow plough driver was yelling at us to move so it was just a quick shot....I enhanced this with Impresso.

The Amaryllis is a plant species native to Cape Province in South Africa but widely cultivated as a very popular ornamental. It is reportedly naturalized in many places. Amaryllis flowers are a sure sign that the holiday season is in full swing. The Red Lion amaryllis (pictured here) rewards with four to eight weeks of growth with stunning, big, red blossoms atop a tall, slender stalk. It also makes a good houseplant and can be grown as an annual.

It has been grey, cloudy and/or rainy for about a week.....I was walking the dog about half an hour before sunset and the clouds started dispersing..it was like someone pulled up the shades and turned on the light! While it has been raining here...it's been snowing on the mountains....this was so amazing...I just wish i'd known it was going to happen...it would have been a tripod instead of the dog! Looking from Royal Oakland Park towards Burnaby/Lougheed.

I came across another viewpoint off of one of the trails we walk on in the morning. The past 19 days of rain fell as snow on the local mountains. The one on the left is call The Lions and the one on the right is called Grouse

The final night of the Celebration of Light Fireworks competition in Vancouver....Team USA...represented by Disney. were up...and they knocked it out of the park, raising the bar for all future competitors. For the first time in the 26 years years of the event, the police had to close off the beaches as an estimated crowd of 500,000 people squeezed onto them to watch.

The recent cold weather spell continues and for the first time in 20 years, the City of Vancouver officially declared Trout Lake safe enough to skate on. Thousands of people came out to play hockey, ice skate, pull their kids in around sleds and let their dogs have a blast.

Others like myself chose to just enjoy the experience by walking around, taking it all in.. Of all the pics I took this is my favourite...perhaps because I watched a young fellow set it up to take his own picture of his skates.....and then a selfie...I liked his composition.

The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome’s Bleriot XI was donated to Cole Palen in 1952 by Bill Champlin of Laconia, NH, Mr. Champlin obtained it from Professor H.H. Coburn, who as a boy had observed the aeroplane in a junkyard while bicycling to and from work each day. Coburn finally procured it and kept it stored for many years. It appears that the Bleriot had crashed at an air meet in Sauguss, MA in 1910, and when received by Cole it was approximately 25% complete. New wings, stabilizer and elevators were built. The front third and rear third of the fuselage are original and it is powered by a 35 HP Anzani “Y” type engine. The maximum altitude that this Bleriot has flown at the Aerodrome is approximately 60’. It is the oldest flying aircraft in the United States, and the second oldest flying aircraft in the world.

From a previous visit. Just trying to brighten the mood of my images.

I hosted a "Very Early" Photo-walk on Granville Island this morning. Granville Island is the "heartbeat of Vancouver". During business hours, it is busy and vibrant. It is home to some very interesting buildings and architecture, that we tend not to notice because of the constant flow of traffic and cars that are parked in front of them. We were there well before sunrise, it was calm, peaceful and beautiful.

Ocean Concrete is the oldest and largest tenant on Granville Island. Their presence was established in 1917 and the lease runs until 2046.

The goal of Granville Island is to maintain a "mixed-use" look and feel to "live, work, shop, play and learn. Ocean Concrete provides the Industrial component to this mix.

In 2014, the world renowned street artists Osgemeos were commissioned to paint the drab silos that tower 70' above the water. The silos gave them a 23,000 square foot canvas to work with and it became one of the largest public art projects the city has ever seen.

When I can I take my camera along when I walk the dog in the early morning at the lake and take my 365 picture......just in case I don't get a chance to (or forget to) take one later in the day. I got lucky with the light this morning.
