For the Macro Mondays theme "Zodiac".
An old and small pendant of my mother with her zodiac sign 'Cancer' engraved in it.
Happy Macro Monday everyone !
Hi, thank you everyone who has sent me messages of support. Obviously due to me recovering I have not been on here much lately but now that I am recovering I intend being here much more frequently. The operation was a success, kidney and cancer tumor has been removed, the surgeon also took three lymph nodes and some fatty tissue that was in the area around it.
I am going to be taking part in a drug trial for an immunotherapy drug which is designed to help prevent the cancer from returning and I have an appointment at the Beatson Oncology Centre in about 4 weeks to get that started.
I am physically feeling great, much more so than I have done for a very long time, mentally I am dealing with some low mood and anxiety but that is also part of the journey. I am looking forward to getting back to my favourite hills and mountains in the next few weeks as I continue my recovery. Well, so long as there is no further lockdowns to prevent me from doing so.
I hope that you are doing well and again for the support and messages received directly, I thank you. Looking at your photos here on Flickr has been a great help during my recovery.
My Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Songbird for Eva !!
One of my favorite singers (1963-1996) is Eva Cassidy.
She died too young from cancer. The last song which she had ever sung was her own interpretation of What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong

As you feel for the people of Israel under Iran's missiles, remember what Israel is doing.

"Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip have been “denied the conditions needed to live and to give life safely” by Israel amid its genocidal war on the enclave, according to Amnesty International, a global rights group.
Amnesty warned on Tuesday that women and girls in Gaza have been pushed “to the brink” as the Israeli war has spurred a series of hardships, from mass displacement to the destruction of the local healthcare system.
Pregnant women, as well as those who need treatment for cancer and other illnesses, have been particularly hard-hit by the lack of adequate health services in the territory, Amnesty said in a statement.
“This systematic erosion of their rights to health, safety, dignity and a future is not an unfortunate by-product of war; it is a deliberate act of war targeting women and girls,” the group said.
“It is also the foreseeable consequence of Israel’s calculated policies and practices of multiple mass displacement, deliberate restrictions on basic and essential items, as well as humanitarian relief, and two years of relentless bombardment that have devastated Gaza’s health system and decimated entire families.”
More than 72,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s war on Gaza began in October 2023.
Israeli attacks have continued despite a US-brokered “ceasefire” that came into effect in October of last year, killing more than 600 people, according to the latest figures from the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza."

This is for someone in my extended family who has been battling cancer. I don't know how to help and am at a loss. Please help send positive thoughts and love to comfort them. Thank you.
the doctors always refer to the radiation treatments as the easy part of the cancer treatment... i guess nothing is easy about cancer... after 28 treatments over 5.5 weeks... the radiation did its job as you can see by the nasty red burn... the good news is that v finished the radiation treatments on tuesday... so the cancer has officially had its butt kicked... YAY!! all that's left is cosmetic reconstruction... v&i meet with her plastic surgeon in a few weeks... he'll assess the radiation damage and determine when he can complete the reconstruction... it will likely be this fall...
we plan to do a little celebrating this weekend... (and if you look closely... v's hair is making a nice comeback!!)

Câncer
Vamos chorar?
-Aquele dia você não me ofereceu pastel. Você é egoísta, não pensa nos outros.
E você fica ali pasmado, tentando entender aquilo.
Rsrsrsrsrsrrsrsrrs.

Happy Birthday Bitca.
Claude, the albino American Alligator, was a highlight of any visit to the California Academy of Science in San Francisco. He passed away last week from cancer at the age of 30. He will be missed by the snapping turtles that shared his tank and by countless children who immediately knew how special he was.
Claude always seemed a bit mysterious, a feeling I hoped to capture with this underwater reflection.

This journey is not over. I will always have to go through radiation treatments whenever one of the tumors acts up. I'm still going through chemo.
With Pep by my side, and so many goals to fulfill, I will keep on fighting for as long as I can. A friend shared this with me today, something I needed a reminder of.
Sitting alone in my cabin on a winter day, darkness settling in by 4:30 p.m. and the temperature at -20°F, I started looking through photos taken over the years. It’s good therapy for me. I get to relive all the trips my wife and I took together. I found this photo still sitting in the RAW folder, waiting to be processed, so I thought I’d share the story behind it.
There’s a place south of Delta Junction, Alaska that we loved to hike and camp at. On our first road trip together in 2010, as a new couple, we went there. It’s a two-hour drive from the cabin, and we would go between two and three times a month.
On this evening in late July, we decided to take a late stroll. This was before cancer, before Covid—when life was treating us well. Eddie was very fit for her age. She was 64 when this photo was taken, but she looked like she was in her 50s. She could out-hike me and pushed me to keep up. She was an Alaskan through and through.
We came across a cow moose in a pond, browsing on the vegetation just below the water’s surface. She would bend down, stay underwater for about 30 seconds, then come up dripping and chewing away. She kept one eye on us since we were fairly close, but she knew we weren’t a threat. She stayed in the pond eating while we watched her for as long as the mosquitoes allowed.
The evening was warm, calm, with only a few clouds in the sky. Just Eddie, me, and a cow moose—sharing an Alaskan evening together in the wilderness.
Oh, how I miss those days.
For you, my Eddie. My forever love.
Today is my niece's last day of chemotherapy!!!
Today she starts to live her life as a cancer survivor and be a normal kid again. It's been a difficult couple of years fighting cancer. This was a great Thanksgiving treat.
Cheers!!!

The Cardrona bras fence, for a long time was a source of controversy, locals deeming that this fence was a blot in the landscape and a shame for the region. However, this fence is so photographed that it has become the symbol of women's fight against breast cancer. We could not remain insensitive to this cause ...
