There arguably is no more of an iconic lighthouse in Canada than the lighthouse of Peggy’s Cove located in Nova Scotia in St Margrets Bay it has been symbolic of Nova Scotia and the Maritimes since soon after its construction, captured in countless paintings and photographs with perhaps only the tall ship the Bluenose overshadowing its representation of the province.
While most call it the Peggy’s Cove lighthouse it is actually the Peggy’s Point lighthouse as it sits outside the cove and marks the Eastern entrance of the St Margrets Bay waters, this is the second light house to stand here the version pictured here being built in 1911 while the original construction from 1868 was converted to the lighthouse keepers house until its destruction during hurricane Edna in 1954.
The current lighthouse is an octagonal construction standing almost 15m tall it was automated after the keepers house was demolished and until 2009 used to contain a post office on the ground floor which served the village as well as the tourists that visited by selling postcards that could be sent with a special cancellation stamp in the shape of a lighthouse.

We had the best weather on this Day 5 of our recent UP Michigan trip. Originally we had planned to spend 10 days up there, but with the disappointing foliage and the upcoming rains for the next three days, we decided to make it our last travel day and return home on the next day.
To take advantage of the good weather, we decided to just visit this iconic lake in the area, and then drive the 2+ hours up to have a look at the coastal area of the most northern part of UP Michigan, even that meant we would be spending 5 hours on the roads.
We had to watch our time because I wanted to make it back to watch the sunset at Lake Superior, plus DINNER! Due to the weird time-zone change, we missed dinner the night before; we couldn't miss trying out the famous UP Michigan Pasties again!
Lake of the Clouds was the most photographed place not only in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park but the entire Upper Peninsula. Since time was of the essence, we accessed it via a short hike from the parking lot, and was super lucky to catch the sun reflecting off the lake on its ascension.
(I only captured areas with the best colors, in most areas the trees were still green.)
(I only made reservations in hotels that had the best free cancellation policy, usually up to one day or the same day of the stay; might pay a little bit more but so worth it.)
Thanks for your visit, happy new week to y'all!

With the Easter holidays approaching it is a time all over the country to get the railway tracks and works done ..so if you are travelling after this evening be prepared for massive delays and cancellations !!
As for this title , next year in January , the tracks under the Mersey Tunnel are due for replacing ,so hopefully the Mersey Ferries will be geared up for extra passengers ,as for the road tunnels, well it will mean congestion most of the time I would think ....
After a Summer of painting exclusively, a return to digital image making. This was a half-finished piece that was begun in July and completed Oct 17, 21.
Exploring an old theme of the false images we create for ourselves in consumer culture. The fanned fire of gossip, judgement and 'cancellation' of those that disagree with our own mightily-held opinions ... all incendiary acts that don't really help us move forward skillfully. Mannequins as representing the false humanities we create to hide behind and judge from. Decoys to distract us off from our real, mutual humanity.
With thanks to Miranda Gorbenko for providing the impetus.

The Airbus A400M Atlas is a European four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft. It was designed by Airbus Military (now Airbus Defence and Space) as a tactical airlifter with strategic capabilities to replace older transport aircraft, such as the Transall C-160 and the Lockheed C-130 Hercules.
The A400M is sized between the C-130 and the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III; it can carry heavier loads than the C-130 and can use rough landing strips. In addition to its transport capabilities, the A400M can perform aerial refueling and medical evacuation when fitted with appropriate equipment.
The A400M's maiden flight, originally planned for 2008, took place on 11 December 2009 from Seville Airport, Spain. Between 2009 and 2010, the A400M faced cancellation as a result of development programme delays and cost overruns; however, the customer nations chose to maintain their support for the project. A total of 174 A400M aircraft had been ordered by eight nations by July 2011. In March 2013, the A400M received European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification. The first aircraft was delivered to the French Air Force in August 2013.

This is the famous "Courthouse Towers" in the Arches National park. Looking at this picture from my archive, the song of Roger Waters "Picture That" from the album "Is This The Life We Really Want?" came into my mind...
I have tickets for his farewell show in Munich but I am afraid the concert could be cancelled. It makes me unhappy... The cancellation would probably indeed violate some laws (so I've read) so I still hope Roger Waters will be able to perform in Munich.

I can finally relax and lose all my stress, our eldest Son has only yesterday been able to go back to his wife overseas, having spent this whole year with me thanks to Covid, plus 8 airline cancellations. Now Quarantine. I miss him so much already.

As 2022 comes to its end and conclusion, the resumption of the annual New Year Eve Countdown and fireworks at the Marina Bay area marks the almost normal return to life in Singapore after two years of cancellations due to the pandemic.
Let us hope that 2023 will be a better year for the world and all of us, despite the many challenges.
Happy New Year!

A stormy 3 days for RIAT 2023 with Sunday being the best day. Cancellations were the norm on Friday and Saturday and on the Sunday afternoon the weather deteriorated resulting in more displays being curtailed. Such a shame after all the planning that goes into these air shows.
OK – due to the cancellation of my spinal op, I'm still stuck at home!! Found this beauty in the garden.
The hardest part about this photo shoot was melding two very busy schedules. Combine a cancellation and a good dose of happenstance and spontaneity, and we finally made it work!

Back from a week long participation in the great "Wings Over the Rockies" festival in Inveremere, British Columbia.
I posted two shots of the beautiful Lewis's Woodpecker. This is my favorite bird species to photograph there.
I have been attending this event since 2011. After two years of cancellation due to Covid, It was wonderful to be there and participating in as many of the 100 events as I could during the week in the beautiful setting of the Columbia River Valley in the Rocky Mountain Trench.

Blue Hour at Batman Mountain, Vestrahorn, Iceland
WOW, I have to say that this view of Batman mountain never fails to disappoint. I have seen this place more times that I can count on two hands during my ten previous visits to Iceland and it always blows me away.
This image that I edited this afternoon was taken pre-sunrise during my Oct 2018 Northern Lights Autumn Iceland workshop. It is such a joy to revisit albums of my photos dating back the last five years and still find plenty of images that I have not got round to editing it.
The memories evoked from looking through the many, many albums that I have from all over the world is absolutely joyous and helps keep me motivated during these summer months when traditionally, I shoot far, far less than normally.
If you want to be impressed, moved, immerse yourself in a magical moment, I have just one place left on my Oct 2022 Iceland workshop (due to a very recent cancellation).
Click the link below for more details. I hope you can join me.

For generations, the people of Connemara and beyond have gathered at the crossroads of Maam Cross, Co. Galway, to sell their famous Connemara ponies, livestock and farm goods. 'The Big Show' occurs in October of each year, though Covid forced cancellation in 2020 and 2021. This brief series will feature candid portraits of attendees as well as a taste of the accompanying 'craic' (fun) of the rain swept autumn meet.

It is a patriarchal cathedral with a basilica plan built by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I in the old city center on the historical peninsula of Istanbul between 532-537 and was transformed into a mosque by Fatih Sultan Mehmed after the Ottoman conquest of Istanbul in 1453. It was converted into a museum with the Decree of the Council of Ministers published in 1934, excavation and renovation works were initiated and served as a museum between 1935-2020. With the cancellation of the museum status in 2020, it regained the status of a mosque.
14th June 2015 - British Aircraft Corporation TSR 2 XR220 taken in the morning sun on a rare outing outside her hangar at the RAF Cosford 2015 airshow.
The Following is taken from the museum website:
Although never developed beyond the prototype stage, the British Aircraft Corporation TSR2 was one of the most exciting and controversial British combat aircraft designs of the 1960s. The cancellation of the project is a subject of great debate to this day.
During the mid 1950s, the increasing sophistication of air defence systems led the RAF to consider the procurement of a high speed, low level strike and reconnaissance aircraft to replace the English Electric Canberra. In October 1957, the Ministry of Supply released the first specification for such an aircraft.
On 1 January 1959 the Ministry of Supply announced a design had been selected for production. Christened the TSR2 (Tactical Strike and Reconnaissance Mach 2), this aircraft was developed by a joint design team. A contract for eleven TSR2 prototypes was concluded on 6 October 1960, the first (XR219) made its maiden flight from Boscombe Down on 27 September 1964.
By 31 March 1965 XR219 had completed twenty-four flights, and a second, the aircraft you see here, was to join the programme. Initial reports indicated that the TSR2 was an outstanding technical success. However political opposition to the project led to it being cancelled from 6 April 1965.
Having already nailed the cement crossing Dnadry Mire and getting done on the gypsum, I wandered round to the other side of Garsdale for a pop at the 50 coming up, thankfully the sun finding a lucky break just at the right moment! After this it was then a brisk walk to Lunds for the logs which also happened to be caught in the sunshine - some luck for a change! That didn't last however as it was straight on the next train up to Kirkby Stephen where I hopped off and headed to Greengates along with a few familiar faces. The sun didn't last long and of course the dark cloud engulfed it long before it came so that was a write off. Not to mention the cancellation and diversion of the northbound cement for whatever reason which would've been a nice end to the day. However 3 out of 6 isn't bad for a 50/50 forecast.
This is 50050 heading towards Garsdale with the 1Z50 Tyseley-Carlisle 'The Cumbrian Mountaineer' Vintage Trains charter. 47773 was on the rear. The 50 would later fail with coolant issues at this location on the return.
I was surprised to see only myself up here for this too, considering Garsdale has the best sun angle at this time of day for northbound workings on the S&C.
(I'm here again! Return from a photo album cancellation error).

Running several hours late, VIA Rail's triweekly Halifax-Montréal train crosses the Chaudière river bridge after its station stop at Sainte-Foy. The last week has been very challenging for VIA Rail's On-Train Services and Transportation departments in Eastern Canada, with harsh weather and a CN derailment causing numerous delays and cancellations. Things are now mostly back to normal as 2022 comes to a close. Consist : VIA 6431, VIA 6407.

Cancellations due to COVID19 allowed the opportunity to reserve and stay on short notice at lodges within several National Parks. These lodges (i.e., including Yosemite and Crater Lake) are generally impossible to reserve otherwise. The parks were fairly empty. My wife were walking back with dinner to our room when I noticed this magnificent sight. The falls were the first sight as we walked in and out of our room. The view was always impressive. However, the diminishing light minutes before sunset added a touch of mystery to this natural wonder.
BTW, I wanted to take the opportunity to inform everyone that Flickr is no longer sending notifications to Yahoo mail accounts. I only receive notices regarding promotions by Flickr. As a result, it is impossible to track and reciprocate all Faves. Sorry about that and stay healthy!
Sunset at DFW airport which I believe actually has sits between Fort Worth and Dallas thus why it’s named Dallas Fort Worth Airport. Loved all the lovely warm tones. A extended long travel day as a couple of flight cancellations, now a delay of hour and forty six minutes on the last leg from DFW and I’ll actually be touching down at home technically tomorrow! Delay allowed me to download image to my IPhone and edit it and post it on the same day a rarity for me. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot @visitdallasfortworthtx @dfwairport @visittexas #sunsetphotography
Peggy’s Point Lighthouse also known as Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse is an active lighthouse and an iconic Canadian image. Located within Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, it is one of the busiest tourist attractions in the province and is a prime attraction on the Lighthouse Trail scenic drive. The lighthouse marks the eastern entrance of St. Margaret’s Bay and is officially known as the Peggy’s Point Lighthouse.
The classic red-and-white lighthouse is still operated by the Canadian Coast Guard, and is situated on an extensive granite outcrop at Peggy’s Point, immediately south of the village and its cove. This lighthouse is one of the most-photographed structures in Atlantic Canada and one of the most recognizable lighthouses in the world.
The first lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove was built in 1868 and was a wooden house with a beacon on the roof. At sundown the keeper lit a kerosene oil lamp magnified by a catoptric reflector (a silver-plated mirror) creating the red beacon light marking the eastern entrance to St. Margaret’s Bay. That lighthouse was replaced by the current structure, an octagonal lighthouse which was built in 1914. It is made of reinforced concrete but retains the eight-sided shape of earlier generations of wooden light towers. It stands almost 15 meters (49 ft.) high.
The old wooden lighthouse became the keeper’s dwelling and remained near to the current lighthouse until it was damaged by Hurricane Edna in 1954 and was removed. The lighthouse was automated in 1958. Since then, the red light was changed to white light, then to a green light in the late 1970s. Finally, to conform to world standards the light was changed to red in 2007.
The lighthouse used to contain a small Canada Post office in the lower level during the summer months serving as the village post office where visitors could send postcards and letters. Each piece of mail received a special cancellation mark in the shape of the lighthouse.

The problem children of the depot Kempten are the new Pesa Link railcars. The start of service in the Allgäu region was quite bumpy and frequent train cancellations were the order of the day. The strikingly styled vehicles have already been given nicknames. The respectful version is " Shark", the disrespectful one "Toilet Cover". On January 16, 2021, I was able to take a shot of RE 57585 on its way to Munich main station near Aitrang. The train consisted of the 633 033 and two other vehicles of the same type. A gap in the cloud cover allowed a well-lit winter image.

With the pending cancellation of the lease from BNSF, the MRL started the ugly process of upgrading everything for PTC compliance, which meant the death of any and all searchlights. Contractor crews were working fast along the 2nd Sub east to west, with replacements almost all the way to Helena by the time we made it out last summer. Splitting the short timers at the east end of Louisville, the Helena local flies back to Helena after getting hosed by a stalled train on Winston and multiple trains at Townsend.

The Škoda sets for the Munich-Nuremberg Express are notorious for being real problem cases. The coaches in particular cause problems and this often leads to the cancellation of entire trains. To defend them, however, I have to mention that the trains run reliably every time I stand on the line. Which of course has nothing to do with me, but is a matter of subjective and objective perception. On 11 May 2022, I saw 102 002 with RE 4029 on its way to Munich main station near Vierkirchen.

Back in 1956 hood ornaments like on this 1956 Mercury were not even thought to be a deadly weapon when striking some poor pedestrian. It was all about beauty back them, however, that all changed in the years that followed. As a 15 year old at the time I have fond memories of the Sunday night television show, The Toast Of The Town, aka The Ed Sullivan Show which was sponsored by Lincoln Mercury, and drooling over all the commercials of "the latest models" from Mercury. The following from Wiki is a little history of the show:
From 1948 until its cancellation in 1971, the show ran on CBS every Sunday night from 8–9 p.m. Eastern Time, and is one of the few entertainment shows to have run in the same weekly time slot on the same network for more than two decades.
Virtually every type of entertainment appeared on the show; classical musicians, opera singers, popular recording artists, songwriters, comedians, ballet dancers, dramatic actors performing monologues from plays, and circus acts were regularly featured. The format was essentially the same as vaudeville and, although vaudeville had undergone a slow demise for a generation, Sullivan presented many ex-vaudevillians on his show.
Originally co-created and produced by Marlo Lewis, the show was first titled Toast of the Town, but was widely referred to as The Ed Sullivan Show for years before September 25, 1955, when that became its official name. In the show's June 20, 1948 debut, Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis performed along with singer Monica Lewis and Broadway composers Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II previewing the score to their then-new show South Pacific, which opened on Broadway in 1949.
From 1948 through 1962, the program's primary sponsor was the Lincoln-Mercury Division of the Ford Motor Company; Sullivan read many commercials for Mercury vehicles live on the air during this period.
The Ed Sullivan Show was originally broadcast via live television from CBS-TV studio 51, the Maxine Elliott Theatre, at Broadway and 39th St. before moving to its permanent home at CBS-TV Studio 50 in New York City (1697 Broadway, at 53rd Street), which was renamed the Ed Sullivan Theater on the occasion of the program's 20th anniversary in June 1968. The last original Sullivan show telecast (#1068) was on March 28, 1971, with guests Melanie, Joanna Simon, Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass and Sandler and Young.

Unfortunately, the services of the class 218 between the Bavarian capital and Buchloe are now history. Most recently, there were two pairs of trains daily during rush hour and one pair of trains at weekends, with a double-decker set with a covering by the Bundesbahn classics at the top and tail of the train. Nevertheless, it was often not an easy task to photograph these services. There were often cancellations and delays when there was damage to one of the locomotives from the depot at Kempten. Also on 01 September 2021, things did not go according to plan, the RE 57592 from Munich HBF to Kempten was only hauled by one locomotive. But as the ocean blue-beige 218 446 was leading, this was not a problem. At the time the photo was taken, the locomotive had only been back home in the Allgäu for a few days. Prior to that, it had been on loan for an extended period of time on the Marschbahn in the far north. A few days later, the Kemptner gem collided with a cow near Kaufbeuren and was thus out of action again for a few weeks...
On a typical hot Croatian summer afternoon 2044 028 leads the then daily Prague-Split overnight train between Perkovik and Sadine station.
