Usually on the Rosslare-Cherbourg route linking Ireland with France, seen on secondment to the busy Dublin-Holyhead route in September 2023.
Due back on the Dublin/Holyhead route in March 2025 while Stena Nordica is taken off the route for refit cover.
There is something very soothing close to the waters edge.

Koh Mak is een redelijk groot eiland dat ligt tussen Koh Chang en Koh Kood maar dan veel rustiger dan eilanden als Phuket, Ko Samui en ook Ko Chang. Je komt hier om te relaxen in je hangmat en van de stralende zee te genieten. Je kunt prima snorkelen bij koralen en languit liggen op helderwitte stranden. Als het eb is kun je lopen naar het nabijgelegen eilandje Ko Kham met zijn mooie koraalriffen en kokospalmen. Er is ook een mogelijkheid een kano te huren en met rustige zee naar de eilandjes in de buurt te canoën. Koh Mak ligt met amper 2.000 bewoners in de beschermde Koh Chang Marine Park archipelago in de provincie Trat. Het is het derde grootste eiland van de provincie met een oppervlakte van amper 16 km². Koh Mak heeft een omtrek van 27 kilometer. De archipel telt 52 eilanden die verspreid liggen over een oppervlakte van 650 km². Bij lage tij kan men wandelen naar het Kleinere eiland Koh Kham, dat één kilometer verder noordwestelijk ligt. Het nabije Ko Phi is niet bewoond. Noordelijk gedijt Ko Wai, dat befaamd is voor zijn koralen, terwijl Koh Kradet ongerepte stranden biedt. Koh Mak is een zeer vlak eiland waar de lokale bewoners vooral actief zijn in de landbouw. De belangrijkste inkomsten worden verworven door de rubberboomplantages en de kokospalmen.

Before dinner we took a walk along the beach. At that time our steps on beach makes many crabs run into their sandy holes on the beach. A fun game for BieJee and Samantha.

Bij lage tij kan men wandelen naar het onbewoonde eiland hierboven Koh Rayang Nai. Voor diner maken we nog even een strandwandeling. Alhoewel de zon ondergaat achter de heuvels is er toch een prachtig avondrood te zien. Tegen de avond lopen er veel krabbetjes op het strand. Door onze voetstappen rennen alle krabben weer snel terug in hun zandholletjes. Een leuke bezigheid voor Samantha en BieJee.

The Black Bittern is a heron, dark grey to black in colour breeding in tropical Asia. The adult is uniformly black above, with yellow neck sides. Bitterns are a classification of wading birds in the heron family Ardeidae. Species named bitterns tend to be the shorter-necked, often more secretive members of this family. Black bittern occupies terrestrial and estuarine wetlands, where permanent water is present and the vegetation is dense. It may be seen in flooded grassland, forest, woodland, rainforest and mangroves also. The Black Bittern feeds by day but especially prefers the time around sunset. It roosts communally at night, and coastal flocks roost at high tide. The primary food of the Black Bittern is small fish, but it will also eat aquatic insects, crustaceans and amphibians. Their digestive acids are so strong that bones that are consumed simply dissolve in their stomachs. The Black bittern bird is a threatened species.
The rainy season in Thailand is from May till November. During this season you can get some of those torrential rains like photo above that last 30 minutes to 2 hours. Dark clouds gathering above island Koh Wai nearby Koh Mak . A Black Bittern is usually more active around sunset and just passing my lens while I was shooting the colored sea and torrential clouds.
De Zwarte Roerdomp is een van de kleinere leden van de reigerfamilie en komt voor in tropisch Azie. De Zwarte Roerdomp heeft een kortere nek dan onze reigers. De Zwarte Roerdomp is door het afnemen van moerasgebieden een bedreigde vogelsoort. Ze komen voor in dichte moerassige gebieden waar veel water is. De Zwarte Roerdomp zit overdag meestal ineengedoken in een boom en is voornamelijk in de schemering en 's nachts actief. Ze leven voornamelijk van vis, insecten en kikkers. Hun spijsverteringszuren zijn zo sterk dat de beenderen eenvoudig in de maag verteren.

Er zijn nog ongerepte stranden op tropische eiland Koh Mak waar je zeker een Robinson Crusoe gevoel krijgt. Haad Khao is een prachtig en rustig 7 km lang zandstrand. De baai heeft twee kleine eilanden. Bij laagtij kan men wandelen naar het onbewoonde eiland hier boven Koh Rayang Nai. Maar vergeet niet voor vloed terug te gaan.

I found several hermit crabs running here at the beach. The hermit crab is a type of crab that doesn't have a very hard shell. Not a true crab, it uses other animals' old shells for protection; they especially like old whelk shells. As the hermit crab grows in size, it must find a larger shell. Koh Mak is the perfect place to relax, explore, calm your mind and smoothe your senses. Koh Mak Island, where less is more.

The last days we spend on the tropical island Koh Mak in Thailand near the border of Cambodia. Laying and relaxing on the beach where not every shell seems be a shell. Like in this video. The hermit crab is a type of crab that doesn't have a very hard shell. Not a true crab, it uses other animals' old shells for protection; they especially like old whelk shells. As the hermit crab grows in size, it must find a larger shell. The video was taken at dawn at a forsaken beach on Koh Mak.

Our last day on Koh Mak. This morning the sun is shining on the tranquil Khao beach on Koh Mak. A beautiful 7km sandy beach and the warm sea of 28 degrees Celcius (82.4ºF). Thailand's preserved treasure, is an ideal destination for visitors who enjoy a tranquil environment unspoiled by mass tourism.

Koh Mak is een redelijk groot eiland dat ligt tussen Koh Chang en Koh Kood maar dan veel rustiger dan eilanden als Phuket, Ko Samui en ook Ko Chang. Ook in het regenseizoen dat loopt van mei tot november is het heerlijk vertoeven. Het zee water heeft een temperatuur van 32 graden. Je komt hier om te relaxen in je hangmat en van de mooie zee te genieten. Als het eb is kun je lopen naar het nabijgelegen eilandje Ko Kham met zijn mooie koraalriffen en kokospalmen. Er is ook een mogelijkheid een kano te huren en met rustige zee naar de eilandjes in de buurt te canoën. Koh Mak ligt met amper 2.000 bewoners in de beschermde Koh Chang Marine Park archipelago in de provincie Trat. Het is het derde grootste eiland van de provincie met een oppervlakte van amper 16 km². Koh Mak heeft een omtrek van 27 kilometer. De archipel telt 52 eilanden die verspreid liggen over een oppervlakte van 650 km². Bij lage tij kan men wandelen naar het Kleinere eiland Koh Kham, dat één kilometer verder noordwestelijk ligt. Het nabije Ko Phi is niet bewoond. Noordelijk gedijt Ko Wai, dat befaamd is voor zijn koralen, terwijl Koh Kradet ongerepte stranden biedt. Koh Mak is een zeer vlak eiland waar de lokale bewoners vooral actief zijn in de landbouw. De belangrijkste inkomsten worden verworven door de rubberboomplantages en de kokospalmen. In het regenseizoen zijn wel de meeste resorts gesloten waardoor je het rijk alleen hebt op de vele ongerepte stranden. Ongeveer 10 toeristen bezoeken dan het eiland per dag. Eén keer per dag gaat er een speedboot naar Koh Mak en weer terug naar het vaste land.

The last days we spend on the tropical island Koh Mak in Thailand near the border of Cambodia. Laying and relaxing on the beach where not every shell seems be a shell. Like in this video. The hermit crab is a type of crab that doesn't have a very hard shell. Not a true crab, it uses other animals' old shells for protection; they especially like old whelk shells. As the hermit crab grows in size, it must find a larger shell. The video was taken at dawn at a forsaken beach on Koh Mak.

De laatste dagen lekker relaxen op het tropische eiland Koh Mak in Thailand waar niet elke schelp een schelp schijnt te zijn. De heremietkreeft is bekend door het gebruik van een lege schelp, meestal een slakkenhuis, als bescherming voor het weke achterlijf. Bekijk m'n eigen video. Koh Mak island a holiday destination that offers calmness and peaceful atmosphere. One of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand. Here the sea is blue and clear and the white sandy Khao beach stretches for 7km. The beach slopes gently into the sea ensuring that swimming form the shore is safe. A short boat ride away to the nearby islands you can find coral reefs which are ideal for snorkelling and scuba diving. Koh Mak where you can enjoy your dream vacation in a cosy atmosphere. Koh Mak is a medium island where nature, adventure, and convenience come together with untouched nature. The little island Rayang Nai in the above photo can be now be reached on foot since it's low tide.

Koh Mak is een redelijk groot eiland dat ligt tussen Koh Chang en Koh Kood maar dan veel rustiger dan eilanden als Phuket, Ko Samui en ook Ko Chang. Je komt hier om te relaxen in je hangmat en van de stralende zee te genieten. Je kunt prima languit liggen op helderwitte stranden. Er wonen maar weinig mensen. Voor snorkelen of duiken is dit een mooie plek want het eiland heeft een mooi rif. Als het eb is kun je lopen naar het nabijgelegen eilandje Ko Kham met zijn mooie koraalriffen en kokospalmen. Er is ook een mogelijkheid een kano te huren en met rustige zee naar de eilandjes in de buurt te canoën. Er zijn nog ongerepte stranden op tropische eiland Koh Mak waar je zeker een Robinson Crusoe gevoel krijgt. Haad Khao is een prachtig en rustig 7 km lang zandstrand. Het mooie groene gras is van het Holiday Beach resort. Het zeewater heeft zelfs in het regenseizoen een temperatuur van 28 graden Celcius. De baai heeft twee kleine eilanden. Bij laagtij zoals hierboven kan men wandelen naar het onbewoonde eiland hier boven Koh Rayang Nai. Het water komt dan tot je middel.

Just a few kilometres south of Ko Chang yet a million miles from its heavy urbanisation lies Koh Mak, undoubtedly an overlooked gem in Thailand's lavish crown. A tropical heaven for those who like the quiet life, it has so far escaped the grasp of the major developers and remains a small slice of paradise locked in time. With stunning white sandy beaches adjoining crystal clear water it is fast becoming famous for its scenery; British newspaper The Sunday Times recently included Koh Mak as one of their Top Ten Beaches in the World, and the past few years has seen the island's beauty also attracting film makers looking for an authentic tropical location. A single track road meanders through the island and offers the chance for the explorative to find their own deserted beach, or perhaps take in the sights and sounds of the jungle. If you're searching for your own slice of Robinson Crusoe then this is possibly about as close as it comes. Koh Mak is that tranquil place that many people come to Thailand looking for, and those who find it usually stay far longer than planned. As to how long it will remain this way we will have to wait and see … for now though, it truly is a slice of heaven.

Koh Mak boasts of scenic beauties, crystals clear sea, pristine beaches and a very pure nature environment. Most of the island inhabitants live off the cultivation of coconut, rubber production or fishing.
Koh Mak één van de 52 eilandjes in de Trat provindie en ligt 2 uur varen vanaf Koh Chang. Een onontdekte parel, met een helder turquoise zee en slechts enkele inwoners. Op het eiland zijn veel kokosnoot- en rubberplantages en diverse baaien en verlaten strandjes. Het is mogelijk een scooter te huren om het 16km2 grote eiland te verkennen. Je komt hier om te relaxen in je hangmat en van de stralende zee te genieten. Je kunt prima snorkelen bij koralen en languit liggen op helderwitte stranden. Als het eb is kun je lopen naar nabijgelegen eilandjes lopen. Er is ook een mogelijkheid een kano te huren en met rustige zee naar de eilandjes in de buurt te canoën. Er zijn nog ongerepte stranden op tropische eiland Koh Mak waar je zeker een Robinson Crusoe gevoel krijgt. Haad Khao is een prachtig en rustig 7 km lang zandstrand. De baai heeft twee kleine eilanden. Een eiland weg van de massa waar je kunt toeven op het witte strand met wuivende palmbomen. Je kunt onder de schaduw van de palmbomen genieten van een verse kokosnoot, een goed boek lezen of ontspannen baden in het lekkere warme zeewater.

We all know Mr. Sandman. That little man in a blue suit, who throws sleeping powder into kids' eyes. "Mr. Sandman" (sometimes rendered as "Mister Sandman") is a popular song written by Pat Ballard which was published in 1954 and first recorded in that year by The Chordettes. The song's lyrics convey a request to "Mr. Sandman" to "bring me a dream", the word "dream" ambiguously referring to a real significant other as well as to a sleeping dream.

Klaas Vaak, of het Zandmannetje, is de naam van een kabouter die zou komen om kinderen enkele korrels slaapzand in de ogen te strooien, zodat ze gaan slapen. Als bewijs voor het nachtelijke bezoek van Klaas Vaak zijn dan in de ooghoeken zandkorrels te vinden. 's Morgens moet men dan ook zijn gezicht wassen om het zand weg te halen. De naam Vaak komt waarschijnlijk uit de (in Nederland) verouderde uitdrukking vaak hebben voor slaap hebben. Het Zandmannetje zou op de maan wonen, hij zorgt voor de dromen.
