Calcium is essential for strong bones and teeth. Calcium deficiency can lead to disorders like osteoporosis (brittle bones). Two of my Super Bush tomatoes had this black looking rot on their underside, that seemed to be spreading. I removed them, reasoning that I'd rather the plant put its energy into healthy fruit. I don't know what the disease is, though. Does anyone know? Bonus points if you know how to treat it!
Update: It would appear to be blossom end rot. Generally caused by a shortage of calcium in the soil, or periods without enough water. I guess I should be more diligent about making sure that my plants are watered every morning, and maybe check on them in the evening, too! I'll also buy some lime to help fix any calcium shortage problem.

I like classifying my songs. I have long-car-drives songs [Strings], 12 AM songs [Coldplay and Mekaal Hasan Band], songs with friends [Silk Route], sit-and-think songs [Call], songs for rains [Ambar by Raghu Dixit, Keh Lene Do and Karvan by Agnee] songs for when-people-think-I'm-a-weirdo [almost all of my Pakistani Rock stuff]. Oh and I depend on the radio for songs-to-dance-in-the-bathroom-to.

Apple bitter pit is a calcium-deficiency disorder. It occurs when apples are unable to absorb sufficient calcium from the soil. As a result, fruit cells die and rot, producing small, round, dark spots or sunken pits on the skin of the fruit, and sometimes in the flesh, too.
Nearly all of the fruits on this plant are breaking open after growing to size. I fed it a lot of nutrition, but skimped the calcium because of my inability to get to the soil around the stem.
