I caught a thief in the short interval between when he cut the lock and when he disentangled it from the wheels of my wife's bicycle. The thief was a faster runner than I was, and got away, but without the bicycle. The cops took his cutter, but claimed that the lock itself had no evidentiary value.

cable lock is bad. cable lock not around any stationary object is worse. these 2 bikes were attached to each other but no one had the bright idea to loop the signpost into the lock job.
Oh boy. It's an old bike so no-one must have tried to steal it all that much. It's sorta safe since there's a cable lock slung around the frame but that u-lock should really go on the frame somewhere, not just around two spokes. one cable cutter and two cut spokes and this bike is free.
The woman who owns this bike has started to lock it correctly :) It was scary when the nice public bike was locked like this - one cable snip away from being ridden away.

If we can fill this room with reular riders toting their bikes in and out it will send a message that says cut back on the (junk) mail room and make more room for bikes!
