Das zum Weltkulturerbe UNESCO gehörende Douro-Tal im Norden Portugals bietet eine wunderschöne Landschaft, die man mit dem Zug von Porto nach Pocinho durchqueren kann. Der landschaftlich reizvollste Bereich liegt am hinteren Ende der Strecke. Der Streckenverlauf führt entlang zahlreicher Brücken und Tunnels durch nur sehr dünn besiedeltes Gebiet.
CP 1461 hat soeben mit IR 861 nach Pocinho den Tunnel zwischen Alegria und Ferradosa verlassen.

Wir hatten keinen Stress. Der Zug liesse sich zwar verfolgen, doch Frontlicht hat er lange keines mehr. Die nächste Stelle war auf dem Staudamm von Fratel. Dort angekommen staunten wir von der recht dicken Nebeldecke. Aber die Sonne vermisste uns, so dass wir nach einer guten halben Stunde im perfekten Sonnenschein standen. Inzwischen kam auch der vorher fotografierte Zug auch von hinten vorbei. Nach einer guten halben Stunde kam dann auch der avisierte IR nach Guarda.

Yes, this is CP 244 with the main competition taking the lead which is always nice. Even better, the sun is shining and blue skies. CN 5611 leads CP 8206 down the Galt sub on the approach to the 7th concession crossing headed east to Toronto.
CP 100 runs south on the last few miles of the Mactier Sub into Toronto, off to the left is the Metrolinx Weston Sub.
CP train 196, lead by CP 7019 (SD 70ACU) heads down Great Northern Hill with slightly less grand motors that appeared to be dead in tow. CP 7018 was a mid train helper but would have looked better up front.
Due to the lack of rolling stock, CP has refurbished and put into circulation several Swiss built Schindler coaches, especially on the Douro line. Here we see the diesel locomotive 1424 with two of these coaches doing an InterRegional train from Pocinho to Oporto.
Nowadays, the local trains on the Douro line are made with the "camello" railcars, rented from Renfe. These units will be replaced in 2023 when the new "Flirt" railcars purchased by CP from Stadler begin to arrive. In the picture we see a 592.2 series railcar with a local train from Marco de Canaveses to Régua, meandering the Douro river, near Aregos.
Rarely did one encounter a perfect A-B-A set of F units on CP (except on the 'Canadian'). Here FP7 4037, F7B 4435 and FP7 4040 sit at Quebec Street in London. 4037 was the last unit to retain its maroon-and-gray livery with script lettering, and was to be repainted a few months later.
While on my way to work I noticed the tail of a CP EB clearing thru Lovekin and made a quick detour at Westlyville. The morning fog mixed with the late sunrise made for abit of interest to an otherwise boring train.

A very long 587 at over 12,500 ft with 100 or so potash empties followed by an empty oil train for a total of 213 cars. BNSF 8579 and NS 7242 at mid-train but not seen in the photo.
CP 7020 wears North Atlantic Treaty Organization green, which the Canadian and U.S. armies apply to fighting vehicles and equipment serving in temperate climates.

Starting out over the CP's Shuswap Sub in fine evening light, CP 8160 and 8905 have a westbound coal train in tow as they cross the Columbia River at Revelstoke BC. Helpers include mid-train dpu 9889 and rear end dpu 9823.
CP 246 has almost completed its trip from Sudbury as it heads south down the Belt Line towards Frontier Yard.
CP Extra 5735 East cruises through Belle River Ontario at mile 94.1 on the CP's Windsor Sub. Better times on the CP, for sure.
