We had it confirmed yesterday that our dear Flickr friend, Gérard had left us. I say confirmed because I had noticed he had not reappeared as he always did and the days of his absence were increasingly disturbing. I thought about him often of late...his loyalty, consistent presence and most of all his humor. He is the only one I've ever known who I could really hear laugh when he wrote "LOL."

It's funny how this medium can actually develop what can only be defined as real friendships when one anticipates and looks forward to daily interactions and comments. I recall the shock I felt when he informed us of his condition...and clearly recall also the shock he himself felt in just those few dramatic words. I eagerly awaited his return to Flickr from his treatments and, when he did, marveled at his spirit during this impossibly difficult time.

Gérard and I shared musical tastes and frequently exchanged YouTube links we thought appropriate to an image or an expressed thought. In many ways, we were on the same "wave length" and we discussed and mourned the losses in the musical arena this year. And now he has joined them. It has indeed been a year of loss.

So adieu, mon ami. You will be missed deeply by many, as myself, who have never met or even spoken to you...a tribute indeed. Oh, and I can tell that's you captured in this image by the white head...;-)

And one more link to carry you onward...

Due to my health condition, I am unable to hold or stabilize a camera for extended periods of time. Additionally, using a tripod has never been enjoyable for me, as it would cause pain when trying to position it correctly and constantly bending over to check the viewfinder. Consequently, I have chosen to explore digital AI artwork as an alternative. I understand that this may not be everyone's cup of tea, as it diverges from traditional photography. However, I have always granted myself the freedom to exercise artistic license and pursue whatever brings me joy. Currently, digital AI artwork fulfills that purpose, at least for the time being.

My first photo of a Common Kestrel (male) in wildlife condition.

Sun was in front of me, I was far and I didnt even reconize it.

I did one photo to see what kind of bird was on the top of this tree and I saw a Kestrel.

So these photos are very big crop.

The in flight photo was completly blured as I used my still setttings (1/1000s) and Topaz AI sharpen saved it with its Stabilize function.

ps : grey/blue head's feathers means it's a male

I met this cute pup on Saturday to take his photos. This gorgeous Portuguese Cattle Dog, Ruckus is up for adoption at www.speakingofdogs.com

He has a heart condition and last I heard, there were no applications filled out for him.

He is just 7 months old, a fun rambunctious pup. His foster mom is lovely but I hope this beautiful boy finds his forever home soon.

The rains continue to fall. It rained on St Swithin's Day and so we expect another 40 days of it. As each drop of rain falls, I feel my fear and worries rise. I am once again picking our son up from the floor following a seizure induced fall. His new specialist epilepsy neurologist is seeing us soon and I am documenting his current condition in his ‘seizure diary’. It does not make good reading.

I fear how I will convey this crucial information. I can talk about epilepsy and autism as well as his other conditions fluently and with confidence. But this meeting will be about our son. When I talk about the pain and torment our son lives through each day, I am always overcome with emotion.

The diary will help, and it will contain thoughts and questions that I will refer to if I need prompts. I am not expecting anything in particular, we have been trying different things over many years now. But his condition is getting worse. In front of our very eyes, we see the changes.

My fears are as plentiful as the endless raindrops falling outside. I just hope this new neurologist listens to my story and commits to continuing to support us through whatever the future holds …

Just returned from a weekend down visiting the Norfolk Broads, I have been long time planning this trip to try and get a glimpse of the rare swallowtail butterfly. We had reports that the just came on the wing Friday night and by Saturday morning they were fully active. I was astonished about how clean and perfect condition they were in. This one happily fed and allowed me several minutes of photos before flying off.

This is one of the most unique AND creepy windows I have ever seen. It is in the Capela dos Ossos, in Evora, Portugal. The Chapel was built as an extension to the Convent of Sao Francisco in the first half of the 17th Century. The Chapel is an invitation to reflect on the transitory nature of the human condition. An inscription over the entrance to the Chapel translated to English reads, "We bones here, for yours await."

Happy(?) Window Wednesday!

This big guy was looking good before the start of the rut.

White-Tailed Deer (Odocoileus Virginianus). Veronica is a little doe that comes around everyday. She’s missing part of her ear but she’s in good condition. Don’t usually name wild animals but I felt that since something bit her ear off she deserved one.

A beautiful small car complete with leather seats and in pristine condition seen in a dales village. Just what you need for a trip to the shops. The old BT red phone-box is not an optional extra.

A few months ago, I posted what I thought was a female Mallard with a condition known as Angel Wings. It turns out the duck was really a juvenile and grew up to be a male! In any case, Angel wings is a deformity in the wing bones, possibly caused by diet, and it renders the duck unable to fly. Fortunately, I saw him two days ago and he appears to be well, although if the bird needs to migrate, he's out of luck and is also more susceptible to predators. Fortunately, there are plenty of other non-migrating ducks in his lake home.

Marbled White / melanargia galathea. Lindrick Common, South Yorkshire. 02/07/14.

'PRISTINE VULNERABILITY.'

I remember finding this pristine Marble White clinging to a grass stem, shortly after she had emerged. Her wings had not fully hardened so whenever she moved up the stem, they were still a little floppy. At such an early stage of adulthood, she would have been extremely vulnerable if spotted by a predatory bird.

Portable Air Conditioning what ever works theory, old building with out any AC found in a small town in North Carolina.

Built during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), this bunker was an observation post, although it also had loopholes for placing machine guns.

From there you can see a wide landscape of the province and the city of Huesca.

Behind it, to the north, is the medieval castle of Montearagón, which can be seen just behind in the photo and from which you can also see a wide landscape.

This bunker is in fairly good condition, despite the passage of time, and is easily accessible.

Photo taken east of the city of Huesca, near the town of Quicena (Huesca, Spain).

Newton's was located on old U.S. 61 as you entered Natchez from the north. I'm guessing it might date back to the 1930s or 1940s. First thing that crossed my mind was that perhaps this was a place where the old blues musicians stayed as they traveled from Memphis to Baton Rouge. Wish those walls could talk. Natchez, Mississippi. 7.7.2013.
