The two Marine Corps will spend three weeks exchanging ideas and conducting practical exercises on areas that will include basic rifle marksmanship, patrolling in a desert environment, combat tactics and demolition techniques. HSV-SPS is an annual deployment of U.S. Navy ships and assets to the U.S. Southern Command’s area of responsibility in the Caribbean, Central and South America. NATO paplašinātās klātbūtnes Latvijā kaujas grupu vada Kanāda, un to veido vairāk nekā 1000 karavīru no Albānijas, Itālijas, Kanādas, Polijas, Slovēnijas un Spānijas.
Pērn NATO samitā Varšavā NATO valstu un valdību vadītāji apstiprināja vienošanos par daudznacionālo bataljona līmeņa kaujas grupu izvietošanu Igaunijā, Latvijā, Lietuvā un Polijā. Kaujas grupu izveides un izvietošanas mērķis ir veicināt NATO īstenoto atturēšanu un stiprināt alianses aizsardzību.
