University of New England Men's Golf at CCC Qualifier at Halifax (Ma) Country Club - October 6, 20-15
The rock face at the South Kawishiwi River Campground on Superior National Forest in Lake County Minnesota was carved with "CCC Co. 1720, June 1933." The carved notation was made by the men of Civilian Conservation Corps Camp No. 704 home to Company 1720. The men of Camp No. 704 (also known as the Halfway Camp) constructed the South Kawishiwi River Campground and Pavilion. The rock notation is a lasting legacy of their work at the South Kawishiwi River Campground. In addition to the Pavilion, the men from Company 1720 constructed the U. S. Forest Service Halfway Ranger Station Complex, built dams, planted trees and fought forest fires.
These are pictures of the CCC Camp, during the construction of Hungry Mother State Park. They were donated to the Smyth County Genealogical Society by Kenny Sturgill.
