Vancouver originated in the 1860s as a result of the wave of immigration during the Fraser Canyon gold rush,
developed from a small sawmill settlement to a metropolis within a few decades after the opening of the transcontinental railroad in 1887.

Walking across the frozen surface of my local lake. The winter light was beautiful, as were the reflections that afternoon.
Now more than ever we have to be grateful for the little moments and big moments when the world is losing so much. I love being up here it makes me forget everything except for what is presented before my very eyes.

A certain someone has succeeded in doing something no Canadian leader has been able to do in my lifetime: unite the country. Not even hockey has gotten us all this riled up all at once. As places created by drawing imaginary lines go, this one is not so bad. We may have a long way to go to be a truly just society, but I hope we will get there together. Go Canada! Elbows up!

Few people move to Canada for Canadian winters (perhaps they visit to ski!), but summers and fall here in Canada are pretty fantastic. I love those long evenings when the sun meanders over the horizon instead of racing (as it does in winter). I captured the last bit of the day here by crouching low so that the rocks and tree on the left side would create a natural frame from this scene. The lovely color is just a fabulous bonus! A purple-blue evening blankets the mountain range, where mist-like clouds drift lazily across the peaks. The first stars begin to shimmer in the deepening sky, and a faint crescent moon hangs low over the quiet landscape. Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada.
This beautiful waterfall is not too far from the Coombs Old Country Market and their goats, it's inland from Qualicum Beach.
Challenge #33 Night Photography. This is a shot of Canadian lights as seen from the United States side of the St. Lawrence Seaway. We miss our neighbors to the north.
Having received a much needed "bath" from morning showers an hour prior, the nose of the leader on 507 looks slightly less scabby than normal. CN 2522, one of the last remaining unique Canadian cabs lads L50711 08 past the bucolic farmland at the Milford/Shubenacadie town line on June 8, 2024. It remains to be seen if any of the original Dash 9s will be part of the AC rebuild program or not, so shoot them while you can! Oh yes, a happy Canada Day to all of my Canadian followers.
Canada warblers are bright, vividly colored birds. The species is nicknamed “the necklaced warbler” because of the unique ring of bluish-black markings around an otherwise yellow breast and throat. Canada warblers have no wing bars and have white under-tail coverts. They feature a yellowish-white ring of color around the eye that creates a spectacle-like marking that is very distinguishable. Canada warblers are remarked to always have a surprised look because of these spectacle markings. They have gray backs and matching wings that fade to black around the crown.
Taken at Gilkicker point in Gosport. The Canada Geese that migrate here are from Canada or Greenland they have pale bellies. The Canada Geese that are on the east coast arrive from Northern Russia and have dark bellies.
