The Central Methodist Church, also known as the Central Methodist Mission or Metropolitan Methodist Church, is a large and historically important Methodist church located on Greenmarket Square in Cape Town, South Africa. The church has played a significant role in the growth of Methodism in South Africa. In 1988, the Metropolitan Church merged with Buitenkant Street Church, forming the Central Methodist Mission.
History and activism
The church is known for its active advocacy efforts such as its yellow banner campaign that seeks to rise awareness of important social issues and as a site of refuge. The church windows were damaged by police water cannons during the anti-apartheid Purple Rain protest in 1989.

In the twilight off it's main line career, 'Western' No. 1010 'Western Campaigner' passes Long Rock on the approach to Penzance heading the 1115 Birmingham New Street - Penzance service on 27th August 1076. 'Campaigner' will likely have taken over the train at Plymouth. The locomotive survived withdrawal and is now owned by The Diesel & Electric Preservation Group based on the West Somerset Railway. I really enjoy pinhole photography on direct positive paper with my 4x5 camera. I believe it's the thrill of capturing a unique one of a kind original like a painting. There is no intermediate negative that needs to be printed onto the final product. What is captured in the camera is the final product. Or is it? ... #etbtsy

The Gasconade River Bridge has earned a hallowed place on Route 66, carrying cars over the Gasconade River in Hazelgreen, Missouri until last year. It also had served as a detour for closures of I-44.
We start our story with an article from Route 66 news here detailing the sudden closing in December 2014 of the Gasconade River Bridge, after an inspection deemed it unsafe due to several deficiencies, "multiple areas of concern....and continued deterioration." www.route66news.com/2014/12/22/missouri-closes-gasconade-.... Originally, MoDot's decision was to replace the bridge, but after a strong and fervent grass-roots campaign, including rallies, an organized group and letter-writing campaign, meetings with MoDot officials, and watchdog and fan pages on Facebook, MoDot announced in October 2015 that the bridge was on its rehabilitation list.

Near Wakool, NSW, We are nearing the end of a national election campaign in Australia. This is but one of the myriad of signs appearing around Australia at the moment but I love the originality of the background even if the sign itself is not particularly original. The hot issue in this electorate (where I am not voting) is water and many farmers will be supporting Kevin Mack.
Photographic Society of Madras, a 150+ years old photo club in Chennai, organised a photowalk on a Car Free Sunday at BesantNagar, Chennai. There many life saving and health awareness campaigns were going on and the above image captured while the public were taught the Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation technique. Even the slum children showed keen interest. More than understanding the technique the message would reach the base level people.

The Messerschmitt Bf 109, often called Me 109, was a German World War II fighter aircraft designed by Willy Messerschmitt and Robert Lusser during the early to mid-1930s.
It was one of the first truly modern fighters of the era, including such features as all-metal monocoque construction, a closed canopy, a retractable landing gear, and was powered by a liquid-cooled, inverted-V12 aero engine.
The Bf 109 first saw operational service during the Spanish Civil War and was still in service at the dawn of the jet age at the end of World War II, during which time it was the backbone of the Luftwaffe's fighter force.
From the end of 1941 the Bf 109 was supplemented by the Focke-Wulf Fw 190.
Originally conceived as an interceptor, later models were developed to fulfill multiple tasks, serving as bomber escort, fighter-bomber, day-, night-, all-weather fighter, ground-attack aircraft, and as reconnaissance aircraft. It was supplied to and operated by several states during World War II, and served with several countries for many years after the war. The Bf 109 was the most produced fighter aircraft in history, with a total of 33,984 units produced from 1936 up to April 1945.
The Bf 109 was flown by the three top-scoring German fighter aces of World War II, who claimed 928 victories among them while flying with Jagdgeschwader 52, mainly on the Eastern Front, as well as by Hans-Joachim Marseille, the highest scoring German ace in the North African Campaign.
It was also flown by several other aces from Germany's allies, notably Finn Ilmari Juutilainen, the highest scoring non-German ace, and pilots from Italy, Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria and Hungary. Through constant development, the Bf 109 remained competitive with the latest Allied fighter aircraft until the end of the war.
