Cal's Jazmyn Jackson's swing took the glove right off the Utah's catcher in Cal's 5-3 win: Sony A7riii + 70-200 GM

Well, here she is. Cally is home!

I collected her from the RSPCA on Saturday morning. I was advised that she had been very nervous and hadn't touched any food for 3 days when she came in, so I should be prepared for the same thing to happen and would need to be patient. Well, obviously no-one had told Cally! She hid when she came out of her carrier, as I expected, so I just sat on the floor and talked to her. After about 10 minutes I heard a cheerful chirrup and Cally trotted over to me purring like a train. She stood with her front paws on my right leg, head butted me, and started pumelling my leg for all she was worth! Within 20 minutes she was eating and she hasn't looked back.

My intention was to do everything by the book and make the introductions to Jaz and Poppy gradually and gently. Again, Cally had other ideas. After she'd explored every nook and cranny of the room I'd prepared for her (to be quiet in - who was I kidding?), she wanted more. I opened the door late afternoon and she shot past my legs. Having charged around the bathroom she emerged only to come face to face with Poppy through a glass panel in the kitchen door. I held my breath and waited for the hissing to begin. Nothing. I exhaled slowly. Nothing but curiousity. Soon after that Jaz came up too, so Cally was face to face with both of them. All she wanted to do was meet them.

Sunday morning I realised that, despite my best intentions, they were all aware of each other's presence so nothing was to be gained by waiting. Again, I let them see each other through the glass, then I slowly opened the door. Poppy and Cally walked past each other, side by side, brushing fur. I couldn't believe it!! No hissing, no spitting ... peace.

If Cally was a dog she'd flatten you and lick your face! She's madly affectionate and absolutely demands that you love her back. I guess in time she'll calm down when she realises she's here to stay.

Yesterday evening she slept on my lap as I watched TV for about 2 hours. I'm still in shock!!!

She's a bit sneezy at the moment (nothing serious, but it was going around the cattery) which is why her eye's a little bit watery, but it should go very soon.

I hope it's now safe to say that Cally is the only one of my girls who didn't pick up the upper respiratory tract infection that Lucy had. Amazingly, Jaz got over it very quickly despite her age and frailty. Dizzy still sneezes occasionally, but is pretty much back to normal and Lucy is fine too. It was an unfortunate start for poor little Lucy, but we seem to be back on an even keel now. I have to wait until 2.00pm to ring the vet's to see how Lucy's doing after her spay this morning and to find out when I can bring her home. I'm an anxious mum and will feel much happier when she's safely back home!

==========

UPDATE: I rang the vet's to be told that Lucy is absolutely fine and that they think she's really lovely! She'd already been rolling around on her back purring at everyone. She's also licked the gravy off the food they gave her and had a little drink. I can pick her up soon. Phew!

I was proud of my girl this morning. I woke up with a start to the sound of yowling below my bedroom window. I shot outside to see what was happening - thinking one of my girls was in trouble - only to find that Cally had Ginge (my neighbour's much larger cat) cornered! It was Ginge who was yowling, trying to figure out how to get past Cally. Eventually he managed to escape when I talked to Cally, but even then she bounced down the garden after him. I actually think she was probably just trying to make friends - she's not remotely aggressive - but he didn't understand. Anyway, fluffy little Cally can still surprise me. :))

On Saturday, 12/18/2010, Cal will battle Penn State for the NCAA Women's Div I Volleyball Championship

One morning last weekend I took about 40 photos of Cally ... and I liked nearly all of them! How to choose? It's impossible with Cally. She's such a sweet and obliging model.

Some people have said they think Cally looks like Lulu. Well, Cally offered me this great opportunity of seeing them together. For me, they're very different - in looks and in temperament. What do you think?

(I had Lulu's photo printed on canvas and I'm thrilled with it.)

This photo is from my current ongoing "ScaryCanary Polaroid Portrait Project". ScaryCanary is the independent music venue and gallery that is very much at the centre of the local alternative music scene at. I play there myself on a regular basis and am using up some of my remaining stock of Fuji FP3000B on a series of portraits of people who work, exhibit, perform and "hang out" there.
