February Alphabet Fun Month, 2023 edition.

I still have some unused rolls from my film days, when I often carried two cameras, one with color film, and the other with B&W film. I still remember taking many rolls of film on my trip to Scotland, hoping they would survive all of the airport scanners.

There is something special about learning photography with film. I think it makes you a better photographer because you know you may only have one or two shots to get it right.

Nice day, nice car. C41 processed by self.

This was a bike that I saw in the yard of one of my UPS customers. I asked permission to take this image. It was during the Christmas rush so I couldn't take my time and compose this shot. Home processed using C41 processing.

My C41 developing setup. The temperature controller is the Willhi Wh1436 available from Amazon, $26.98 when I bought it. Nice easy to read from across the room display. An ordinary Crock-Pot warming C41 chemistry from FPP. I'm using amber ½ liter bottles from Photographers Formulary. The three reel tank is placed on the Uniroller 352 auto reversing unit. Generally I heat the chemistry to 104°F or 95°F either of which give good results. Note the sardine can for catching drips from the tank. IMPORTANT: burp the tank often when rotating blix, built up pressure can (and has) blow the tank lid off.

My setup for C41. The crock pot is set on high for one hour and then turned to medium. I have found that if I leave it on high and shut off when 104 F is reached by the probe, there is too much latency and the temperature goes too high as the heating element still is hot.

I took this shot with my Graflex Super Graphic and the Polaroid 405 back. Regarding the FP-100C I now am rating it at 80 rather than 100 per my meter. More light is getting better results I think.

As I went to process, I discovered that Stabilizer is done at room temperature rather than 104. That bottle joined the 3 minute rinse water to get it to lower temperature.

I use the Weber 6492 thermometer because it will read quickly.

This shot: f/10 for 1/10 seconds @ 80 ASA.

And the two 4x5 color negatives are now drying...

Nikon FE & Nikkor 50mm f1.4 ai-s & Fujicolor C200 (01/2019)

I shot this image through the restaurant window...it was closed for the day.

Note:

I received a roll of Fujicolor C200, expired (01-2019) and according to my records I hadn’t shot a roll since August 2019…way overdue.

Normally I have my film scanned at a regular setting, not HD, by my film guy and gals in a neighboring city. These look like HD to me…truly amazed at the grain and beautiful colors.

Too bad this film is so expensive but I can understand why: amazing film stock.
