The United States Capitol is the meeting place of the United States Congress, the legislature of the federal government of the United States. Located in Washington, D.C., it sits atop Capitol Hill at the eastern end of the National Mall. Though it has never been the geographic center of the federal district, the Capitol is the origin by which both the quadrants of the District are divided and the city was planned. Officially, both the east and west sides of the Capitol are referred to as "fronts." Historically, however, only the east front of the building was intended for the arrival of visitors and dignitaries.
Many homes in Georgetown were already decorated for Halloween in early October, some with a wreath on the door and a few pumpkins on the steps. And then there was THIS house.
Korean War Memorial NP on The Mall in Washington D.C. is part of the National Park Service. The etchings on the granite wall are of actual war photos. It's an amazing sight. The etchings are incredible as are the reflections of the statues of soldiers. #KoreanWarMemorial #WashingtonD.C.
In the second half of the '70s, winters at the U.S. National Arboretum, Washington, D.C., were particularly harsh and many of its Camellias were destroyed by frost. William L. Ackerman (1923-2013), great Camellia expert and collector, and his colleagues developed strains of winter hardy Camellias, among them this startlingly pretty white 'Winter's Hope'. It derives from Camellia oleifera (China) x 'Frost Princess' (Camellia hiemalis (Japan) x Camellia oleifera). It was shown to sustain no winter injury even when temperatures dropped to -20 C and the shrub outdoors was protectively covered. It was then 'released' for sale to the general public in 1991.
Much of the older architecture in Washington, D.C., USA was inspired by French designs. This exquisite building is the Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive Office Building on Pennsylvania Avenue. It reminds me of a French chateau.

Notice the ugly headlamps, the side marker lights, blinkers below the front bumper and the headrests and shoulder belts.
The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center is the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (NASM)'s annex at Washington Dulles International Airport in the Chantilly area of Fairfax County, Virginia, United States.
The 71.000 m2 facility was made possible by a US$65 million gift in October 1999 to the Smithsonian Institution by Steven F. Udvar-Hazy, an immigrant from Hungary and co-founder of the International Lease Finance Corporation, an aircraft leasing corporation. NASM has always had more artifacts than could be displayed at the main museum on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Most of the collection had been stored, unavailable to visitors, at the Paul E. Garber Preservation, Restoration, and Storage Facility in Silver Hill, Prince George's County, Maryland. A substantial addition to the center encompassing restoration, conservation and collection-storage facilities is underway; once complete, restoration facilities and museum archives will be moved from their current location at the Garber facility to the Udvar-Hazy.
