In the middle of Shinjuku’s relentless pace, tucked away near the Kabukicho district, stands Hanazono-jinja. Its name translates to "Flower Garden Shrine," a quiet nod to the history of a site that has been a spiritual landmark for centuries. Dedicated to Inari—the deity of fertility and worldly success—the shrine has long been a place of refuge for those seeking prosperity in business.

While the exact origin of Hanazono remains unrecorded, it was already a recognized site by 1590, during the Azuchi–Momoyama period. This was an era before the Tokugawa shogunate established its power in Edo, the city we now know as Tokyo. Over time, the shrine’s physical presence shifted; it was originally located south of its current position before moving during the mid-17th century.

The history of Hanazono is one of constant reconstruction. It was heavily damaged by fires in 1780 and 1811, and later completely destroyed during the air raids of World War II. The structure seen today, built in the traditional dozo-zukuri architectural style, is a concrete replica completed in 1965.

Walking through the grounds, one finds the Itoku Inari sub-shrine, reached through a corridor of small torii gates. Clustered at the end of this path are the kitsune (fox) guardians, the traditional messengers of Inari.

During a quiet morning visit, the sharp light of the early hours often reveals the daily life that keeps the sanctuary running. In the shadows of the haiden, a shrine priest or assistant in traditional attire can be seen attending to his duties—a reminder that the sanctuary’s pristine state is the result of constant, quiet diligence. It is this intersection, where ancient ritual meets the urban giants of Shinjuku, that defines Hanazono today.

Los Angeles, CA, September 16, 2011 — David Neagle, a business and mindset coach who has helped many of his clients become millionaires, will be a guest speaker at PR expert Lisa Elia’s Meet the Media Day, on October 15. 300 small business owners and entrepreneurs are expected to gather at the event to learn how to build their businesses and increase their visibility through publicity and to have the rare opportunity to hear directly from 12 TV and radio producers and print media writers about their likes, dislikes and desires when being pitched, during a live Q & A session. The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, at the Fairmont Miramar, located at 101 Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica, Calif

LOS ANGELES, CA, September 13, 2011 — The Internet has made it convenient to pitch the media directly; however, most people need help learning how to approach the media effectively. Elia, who has spent more than 20 years as a publicist, has secured placements for clients with The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, USA Today, Time, Redbook, and hundreds of other outlets, will share her step-by-step plan for getting media attention and the newest PR strategies. “With more people doing their own publicity outreach than ever before, the need for understanding the media and how to pitch them properly is greater than ever. I’ll be providing a lot of information on pitching, how to be great in an interview, and other tips that will help people get into action quickly.” Elia, provides a few tips here, on mistakes to avoid when pitching the media:

1.“Me, me, me. Your press materials are too ‘me-centric.’ Try to incorporate current events, trends and statistics and your press kit becomes something of much greater value to the media.

2.All sales, no substance. Your press release shouldn’t read like an ad. It should contain correct grammar and punctuation, and be written in journalistic style. Your best bet is to study the AP Stylebook.

3.Calling to ‘check in’ or make sure the journalist/producer received your press release. Members of the media are under tremendous deadlines, so think twice before calling. They’ll call you if they’re interested. If you feel you must call, offer new and exciting information.”

If you want greater visibility and a free ticket to Meet the Media Day, you can become a table host and fill your table of 10 to receive your free ticket, free valet parking, a sign at your table bearing your logo and name, and the opportunity to have your gift certificate or product included in the gift bags for the media panel and one raffle winner. Table hosts who want to join Elia on stage for coaching or media training get first consideration. Anyone who purchases tickets by September 19 will receive free valet parking ($16 value) and have their name entered into a drawing to win 1 of 10 spots in a live ½-day media training session with Elia in November (a $500 value).

Tickets to Meet the Media Day are $195, including all discussions, panels, and meals. A continental breakfast and delicious lunch are provided. 5% of ticket purchases will be donated to the YWCA Santa Monica/Westside for their empowering and commendable work with women and girls, including girls who have come through the foster system.
