Here’s a classic AEC Regent III double-decker, rolling down London’s Route 19 for a heritage running day, bringing back the good ol’ days!
Passengers are hopping on with grins, reliving a bygone era when a cheery conductor took your cash fare, and the only thing greener than the bus was the nostalgia—let’s just skip the emissions chat!

The 2026 Farnborough International Airshow once again saw Stagecoach South operating an extensive network of shuttle buses between 20th and 24th July, linking Farnborough Main Railway Station, Farnborough North Camp Railway Station, Queens Parade, Farnborough Airport (Gate B) and Aldershot Bus Station with the airshow site. Each route operated approximately every 10 minutes throughout the day, providing a frequent and efficient service for the thousands of visitors attending the event.
To cover the intensive operation, Stagecoach South put together an impressive and varied fleet. Alongside its own ADL Enviro400MMCs were several examples transferred from Stagecoach Manchester and Stagecoach Cumbernauld, the latter joining the South fleet following the closure of Stagecoach's Cumbernauld operations and their transfer to First Glasgow. To further strengthen the allocation, Stagecoach Midlands loaned a handful of 73-registered ADL Enviro400MMCs for the duration of the event.
The fleet also offered a great opportunity to see three generations of Stagecoach's corporate identity working side by side. There were still examples carrying the iconic Stagecoach Beachball livery, which in my opinion should never have been discontinued, alongside buses in the Stagecoach Local branding introduced in 2020 and the latest "We've Got You" livery, introduced in 2024. Seeing all three eras together on one operation really highlighted how Stagecoach's branding has evolved over the years.
For me, the main highlights were Alexander ALX400 18504 (KX06 LYW), which was a real pleasure to see out in service, together with several of the new Yutong U11DD electric double-deckers. These buses are part of Stagecoach South's forthcoming fleet of 22 Yutong U11DD battery-electric buses, which will enter service across Surrey and the Blackwater Valley once charging infrastructure has been installed and the power supply has been connected from a nearby railway station. The new zero-emission buses feature low-floor access, air conditioning and USB charging points, and are expected to operate primarily on Service 1 between Aldershot, Farnborough, Frimley, Camberley and Old Dean, together with Service 20 between Aldershot and Guildford, as part of Surrey County Council's Greener Futures initiative.
Those vehicles alone were enough to tempt me into making the 12-hour round trip from Newcastle on Thursday 23rd July.
Despite only spending around two and a half hours photographing the shuttle operation, it proved to be well worth the journey. With buses arriving every few minutes, there was always something different turning up, making for a busy and enjoyable couple of hours behind the camera.
By the end of my visit, I had managed to photograph 28 of the 35 buses allocated to the Thursday operation, which I was more than happy with.
A huge credit goes to Stagecoach South for putting together such a slick operation. The high-frequency shuttle network coped admirably with the large crowds attending the Airshow, while the varied fleet made it an event well worth travelling to. It was certainly a worthwhile day out, and one I'll hopefully be back to photograph again at a future Farnborough International Airshow.

Door de extreme drukte van winkelend publiek uit Nederland was het ov wat de grens met België passeert behoorlijk druk. Ook lijn 19 werd goed gebruikt, en zette Connexxion het gelede materieel in op deze lijn.
