Taken from the London Eye (which I wasn't keen on at all but there was fuck all I could do about it) on my recent trip to London (and we'll be going again soon) this is Kent House (named after the Duchess of Kent who opened it)...part of South Bank Television Centre, as London Weekend Television called their new home (to avoid confusion with the BBC building in Wood Lane, Shepherd's Bush) when they moved from Wembley (where they had been since their foundation on August 2 1968) in 1972.
The move was also part of a change of image; previously, there was what looked like a pound coin rotating against a grey (later orange) background with the caption in the centre accompanied by a simple acoustic ident theme. On September 18 1972, however, the station's most recognisable identity, The River - a stripe made made up of blue, white and red moving across the black background in the shape of an 'L' and 'W'; the 'Television' part of the name was dropped, was introduced.
Later still, on September 1 1978, graphics designer Terry Griffiths introduced a modified version with revived the full name of the station, culminating in the river sections snapping down into the LWT logo. Not just that, but Harry Rabinowitz' ident jingle was also remixed.
