It was one of those days. Those stormy days. Those days when the sun shows up at about 17:00--peaking through clouds. It was a bright warm light bursting through. The kind of light that you always want to take advantage of. So I did.
Short rant starting here. The single thing using old lenses that don't meter has done that I take with me even with metering lenses is to realize that exposure is an aesthetic choice. This is where computers get in the way, the world is not full of scenes that fit in 6 stops of dynamic range, or full of lines to make crisp focus easy, it isn't all 18% grey or other neutral colours for AWB to render perfectly. The world is full of subjects that are open to photographic interpretation. It's full of opportunities to overexpose and underexpose for emotion. It's full of opportunities to play with focus, sharp or soft, for the end result. It's ripe with opportunities to manipulate colours to an artistic end. Don't confine photography to the proper exposure, find the correct one. For kicks I took this picture as an exposure meter would have, but guess which picture made it here. Exposure is an artistic tool in the photographer's kit. That's the big point of all of this.
f/2.8 16x9 crop, Photoshop to roll some yellow-greens to be more green (more accurate to my memory though) and for watermark.
Lots of D40 uploads this week. I promise. Probably the last of them though.
Update on the new camera, I've got it in my hot little paws. I must say, it's a bit overwhelming, and it's bloody fast. Like the change from P&S to D40 threw me back about how fast a camera can operate, this one has as well. In addition every option on my D40 appears to have become three. Still trying to get everything set how it needs to be.
Still no opinion about the 720p HDV out of it yet. I'll shoot it next to Panasonic's HVX100 and/or the HVX200 next semester for school sometime. Maybe even against the Sony PD170 at the TV station. Anyway I'll let you know when I have an opinion on its video.
juchhu, suppi...mein neues spielzeug.
A quick snap of a video camera I was working with tonight, this thing is silly awesome... hands down in my uneducated mind (I know very little about video) the Sony PMW-EX1 best video camera in it's class.
Tech Details: Lighting provided by a medium sized softbox off to camera left from above about 12" away from the subject. This was done with a Lowel continuous lighting kit, designed for video but works a-okay for photo. Camera was a Canon 5D with a 24-70mm f/2.8L lens.

This is a simple replica of a Sony Broadcast camera used by the Birthday boy at work on BBC's "The Apprentice". I was only for a small gathering so I decided to go for a side shot with 3d elements rather than going fully 3d. 100% handmade and edible.
Broadcast camera by RCTI. Had a short talk with the operator. They use Ikegami brand broadcast camera, which according to the operator, is a lot better and also thrice as expensive as Sony's. There's lots of abuse mark, and he did say they has been using the camera ever since the early day of Indonesian's oldest private owned TV station.

Digital HD POV Camera
This POV camera is great. I can take a high quality photo and take long hours of HD video on a 8 gig memory card.
I'm able to control the camera away from the camera from the long cable from the LCD controller to the camera. Zoom in and out and the choice of auto focus and manual focus.
This camera is great to set up on the hood, and on top of the car for live streaming for mobile live casting travel.

tarting with the superb Canon Genuine Canon 20x HD lens with Professional L Series Fluorite, the XH A1S adds 3CCDs, each of which is at 1440 x 1080 pixels. It also means you can be sure that your shooting in the field will be the best it can be with Canon’s SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization. It corrects for a wide range of camera movement and vibration, and combined with Instant AF (Auto Focus) you’ll get ultra-quick, accurate focus. The DIGIC DV II HD image processor finishes the picture with improved color reproduction and noise reduction - for a final result that delivers excellent image quality.

A close-up shot of a professional-grade video camera, likely a Sony model with a Leica lens, mounted on a Velbon tripod. The camera is sharply focused against a dreamy, out-of-focus background of green foliage and bright bokeh, creating a serene and artistic mood. The cool blue color grading gives the image a cinematic and slightly ethereal quality, emphasizing the technology against a natural backdrop.
