When I went through the breakup of a year long relationship I decided to channel my thoughts and emotions into work. The experience inspired the work of my self portrait project in my second year of BTEC, but I carried on afterwards and made them into a series called ‘Conclusions of Alma’.
The entire drawing is pencil and feels more like an intimate diary appose to a sketch, containing many metaphors and representations of memories and conversations. The main head that takes the centre is a bald portrait of me being fish hooked and has roses for eyes. The finger in my mouth is how I felt when I was with her and the roses refer to her saying I had ‘rose tinted glasses’ when I looked at her, which explains the title. The main face has a bluebell protruding out of the skull due to my first gift to her being a bluebell. The presents of a squirrel seems unrelated but takes inspiration from a conversation we had about squirrel attacking people, the squirrel is also chewing a spade card symbol; and refers to the Marilyn Manson song ‘Spade’. My ex always said she wanted to go to exotic countries and talked about it often, to signify this I drew the globe held in place by a crescent moon because it was a dream of hers and moons are good metaphors for dreams.
It would be lovely to say that this was spring break up, but as winter hasn't officially even started yet..... Nonetheless, it was nice to see the sun cracking this all up. And the sound was amazing as one ice floe slowly merged into another!

During the Fall of 1973, Dave Slipowisky’s girlfriend had enough. He either had to settle down with her or be kicked out on the street with only his 585 Motorcycle Jacket to keep him warm.
Easiest decision he’s ever made.
These guys get exponentially better, every time I see them. Can't wait till next time!
