The Neighbor–joining algorithm analysis was computed in MEGA (v. 4.0) using deduced aa sequences with pairwise deletion, and the JTT matrix based model with 1,500 bootstrap replicates. Sequences were retrieved from GenBank by manually searching for arthropod FARs, as well as BLASTP database searches using HvFAR as query. B. mori FAR sequences were retrieved from the Silkworm Genome Database. All sequences noted as cng (contig) were obtained from Liénard et al. [15]. The full species names can be found in (Table S2). Sequences were aligned with the ClustalW2 algorithm with the ClustalX2 interface and manually inspected before computing the phylogenetic relationship.

Two of the genes from F. depauperata, STE20 and MYO2, hypothesized to be ancestrally acquired in the pheromone/pheromone receptor locus of the pathogenic Cryptococcus species, clustered with the STE20a and MYO2a alleles of C. gattii and C. neoformans. The remaining genes from F. depauperata exhibit a species-specific phylogeny. Genes from the MATa alleles are shown in green, and genes from the MATα allele are shown in blue. (α) indicates strains with the MATα locus, and (a) indicates strains with the MATa locus. The tree was constructed using Maximum Parsimony, and numbers indicate total changes in the branches. Statistical support was calculated from 1,000 bootstrap replicates. Bootstrap values were >70% in all branches (values not shown). Unrooted trees for Maximum Parsimony and Maximum likelihood are shown in supporting File S1.

Why is it that sometimes we are unwilling to talk about our struggles with those closest to us? We find what weighs us down painful to the extent that we do not wish it on anyone else, out of a sense of decency, perhaps, but also not a little pride, for if we cannot manage our problems, how could anyone else?
Do we really possess such stoicism, though? Because when we, without giving them a chance, then turn for comfort to strangers, professionals, or friends and family in our outer circles of familiarity, do we not go with a pit of resentment lodged within us, born of the fact that those who we’ve best equipped with all the time and affection we’ve spent on them to care for us have, just when they are most needed, been found lacking? How hard it is to love and invest in other people without developing gross expectations of what we should receive from them in return. They should’ve sensed our suffering, they should’ve reached out first, they should’ve known.
If only we were wiser in how we suffered, knowing how much of its weight we can ask others to bear and how much must necessarily be carried on our own instead of throwing too much of ourselves into arms not made to support us or sinking into self-pity.
