"A protector—that’s who he was, and would always be. What I had wanted when I was cold and hard and joyless; what I had needed to melt the ice of bitter years on the cusp of starvation. I didn’t have the nerve to wonder what I wanted or needed now. Who I had become.”

― Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury

“Cats are some of the most efficient hunters on the planet, taking down a wide variety of prey … and also, everyone knows that well-fed housecats kill for fun. Toy with their prey, play with it, torture it before they kill it.”

― C.M. Stunich, I Was Born Ruined

Let the whole world be as I am. Let winter rule always.

"She is flying there where the swarm is thickest. She is the largest of them all and never remains on the earth, but flies up to the dark clouds. Often at midnight she flies through the streets of the town and breathes with her frosty breath upon the windows; then the ice freezes on the panes into wonderful forms that look like flowers and castles."

— "The Snow Queen"

And so Tamlin unwittingly led the High Lady of the Night Court into the heart of his territory.”

“You bow to no one,”

― Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Wings and Ruin

“Soon, the whole world would be searching for her--Linh Cinder.

A deformed cyborg with a missing foot.

A Lunar with a stolen identity.

A mechanic with no one to run to, nowhere to go.

But they will be looking for a ghost.”

― Marissa Meyer, Cinder

A different way of looking at quarantine and isolation is realizing that it's a good time to establish some mindfulness practices and, if you are like me, you probably need it more now than ever with the constant panic of news and nightmares that haunt you even when you aren't awake.

But, aren't we lucky to be photographers that appreciate all of these beautiful aspects of nature and humanity and we can still look back at them, at a different time and place and be in that moment? That's why photography is art in the first place.

This quote is from the novel by Luis Alberto Urrea called "The House of Broken Angels" and is about a strong Mexican family coming together and having a last birthday party/funeral for the patriarch.

“Like the nightmares that came at night, we were meant to be seductive. We were designed to lure our victims in. Then, when it was too late to draw back, we struck.”

― K.J. Sutton, Fortuna Sworn

“None of us really changes over time. We only become more fully what we are.”

― Anne Rice, The Vampire Lestat

“Where are we going?"

Rhy's smile widened into a grin. "To Velaris—the City of Starlight.”

― Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury

“My darling," she said at last, are you sure you don't mind being a mouse for the rest of your life?"

"I don't mind at all" I said.

It doesn't matter who you are or what you look like as long as somebody loves you.”

― Roald Dahl, The Witches

Rhys squeezed my hand as he looked to me at last. "And if I had not met my mate..." His words failed him as silver lined his eyes.

He said down the bond, I would have waited five hundred more years for you. A thousand years. And if this was all the time we were allowed to have... The wait was worth it.

He wiped away the tears sliding down my face. "I believe that everything happened, exactly the way it had to... so I could find you." He kissed another tear away.”

Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury

"Life is delicate & fragile & every breath is sort of a miracle - every rising and falling of the chest is like faith ..... spontaneous trust in the next breath ...belief that it won't be your last... nor will be the next one..or the one after that

You just keep breathing."

Lauren Fox (Still Life with Husband)

“Do not fall in love with people like me.

I will take you to museums, and parks, and monuments, and kiss you in every beautiful place, so that you can never go back to them without tasting me like blood in your mouth.

I will destroy you in the most beautiful way possible. And when I leave you will finally understand, why storms are named after people.”

― Caitlyn Siehl, Literary Sexts: A Collection of Short & Sexy Love Poems

I was like a galaxy to him, too big to be seen. I could have picked him up, but it seemed wrong to separate him now from the surface he would never leave until he died. I gave him an acorn. He carried it up the slope in his mouth, stopped, and turned it round against his teeth, flicked it round with his hands, like a potter spinning. His life is eating to live, to catch up, to keep up; never getting ahead moving always in the narrow way between a death and a death; between stoats and weasels, foxes and owls, by night; between cars and kestrels and herons by day.

The Peregrine, J. A. Baker

"Wherever you turn your eyes the world can shine like transfiguration. You don’t have to bring a thing to it except a little willingness to see. Only, who could have the courage to see it?"

-- Gilead, Marilynne Robinson

I told myself I would never succumb to Tumblr ways and take a picture of some random quote from a book and call it photography, but I honestly really, really love this quote from Haunted By Chuck Palahniuk. I had to share it and get others to appreciate something that wouldn't leave my mind for hours after I read it.

What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff—

I mean if they’re running and they don’t look where they’re going

I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That’s all I’d

do all day. I’d just be the catcher in the rye and all.

"...photos provide a false sense of security. Like our own flawed memory, they are guaranteed to fade. Over time, the contrasts within a photo diminish, the contours soften, the details blur. We take photographs in order to remember, but it is in the nature of a photograph to forget."

han convertido el jardín de la placeta en una pradera de flores silvestres.

Ya lo dice el prologo de los Cuentos de Canterbury :

When April with its sweet showers has pierced March's drought to the root, bathing every vein in such liquid by whose virtue the flower is engendered, and when Zephyrus with his sweet breath has also enlivened the tender plants in every wood and field, and the young sun is halfway through Aries, and small birds that ...

The assignment over at Doodlers Anonymous was to pick a quote from a book and doodle/illustrate it. It is up for vote so stop on by if you get a chance. Either way, enjoy.

“The more he rode the trolleys and trains of New York, the more they seemed to form a giant, malevolent bellows, inhaling defenseless passengers from platforms and street corners and blowing them out again elsewhere.”

"she began walking again, south towards the mound. 'live each day as if it's your last,' that was the conventional advice, but really, who had the energy for that? what if it rained or you felt a bit glandy? it just wasn't practical. better by far to simply try and be good and courageous and bold and to make a difference. not change the world exactly, but the bit around you. go out there with your passion and your electric typewriter and work hard at...something. change lives through art maybe. cherish your friends, stay true to your principles, live passionately and fully and well. experience new things. love and be loved, if you ever get the chance."

It felt like I was the only one reaching out.

But he was always there. Watching me watching him. Never any closer to me, but never any farther away, either.

I just finished the book Shiver, and I loved it. Ha. It made me cry, and I love when books are written well enough to actually make me cry. It's very rare :')

You can kinda see the tear trail left on my cheek here. It's faint though.

P.S. I already wear this shirt way too much.

From “The Year of Pleasures” by Elizabeth Berg

(this is referenced in the book as a story that A Navajo Grandfather was telling to his grandson)

“Two wolves live inside of me. One is the bad wolf, full of greed and laziness, full of anger and jealousy and regret. The other is the good wolf, full of joy and compassion and willingness and a great love for the world. All the time, these wolves are fighting inside me.”

“But Grandfather”; the boy said- “which wolf will win?”

The Grandfather answered: “The one I feed.”
