If you cannot read the page on the left, then you put screen E (the middle image) on top of it, and voila, you have a perfectly uh readable page. Thank you Prof. Dr G Van Den Bergh from Holland, who in 1958 published a work that attempts to eliminate the white space between lines and letters in an effort to conserve money yet retain the dignity of reading comfortably. A publisher need only print two pages on one page alternating lines from each page. The reader merely matches the appropriate screen to the appropriate text . Two books published in one. And then there are the colored paper reading glasses that match color to type.

This shows some book cover design options for a recent project I completed. My role was to come up with an attractive cover title, and recommend a font for secondary text and background textures. I also included some placeholder graphics in option 6 for the publishing company. Along with the options shown above, I provided the client a written description of each option (pros/cons), fonts, graphics, and background texture(s) specifications. Once my client selected their desired option, they received the final files for high resolution production.
I was really happy with the final options as was my client -- "Steve! Too many great options. But okay, this is what I loooovee..." This was a fun project to work on with a very quick turn around time from design options to final product. I feel that the "old world" look of the cover is not only attractive, but it best represents the subject matter / essence of the book which is so important. I have seen the final cover design and I am really happy with it. The back cover is complimentary in design.

The Biggest Adventure starts with a surprise birthday package, an impatient girl looking for a dog who isn’t where he's supposed to be, and the headstrong friend who nudges her into a hunt for a lost boy. Eleven-year-old Libby has been entrusted with an ancient snow globe, and learns that she is one of four keepers helping to secure the four entrances to Underdom, an enthralling, miniature place hidden within the globe. Underdom is never short on surprises, but not all of it is good, as Libby and her friend Claire soon discover when they are dispatched to find Michael, the keeper of the eastern gate. Michael has breached a forbidden tunnel leading to the dark, troubled realm of Solifugia, and they must get to him before the powerful key he is carrying falls into the wrong hands. The scared girls know very little of Solifugia, and even less of its terrifying overlord and his formidable army. It is a frantic race against time as the east portal to their newfound world begins to fade and disappear.

This volume has been compiled by Adam, Jackson, Patrick and I - i'm quite happy with the end-result; we had of course lots of fun and learned a lot on the way. It's also quite interesting to see so many parallels unfloding inbetween bookmaking and programming.
