my "quick stop" at the periodontist ended up ruining my weekend camping plans with a gum trim procedure.

yeah, sounds like fun for a Friday afternoon...

(photo taken before the trim - my bling, eh hem, I mean my precious implants, are hidden behind all that gum)

Luckily I've had almost every part of my body pierced...

Maybe it was just to prepare myself for my lengthy implant procedures...

many more to come...or should I say, GO

my outrageous implants shined, primed, and bloody.

(photo taken immediately after the gum trim which released me to proceed treatment with the other doctor-FINALLY! I sacrificed my camping trip just to get closer to finishing this tiny part of my dental nightmare.)

Periodontists are so fucking awesome! I mean they use crazy carpenter like tools! He used a hex wrench to take the caps off my implants and then used a punch (kinda like a paper punch) to push down on the implants...and chop off the gum.

My first operation to correct scoliosis, lordosis and kyphosis when I was about 15. This is in comparison to the pictures I posted earlier that were taken last month.

While correcting the scoliosis etc., the first operation left me with "Flat-back Syndrome" which is what it sounds like. I basically had no "small" of my back. As a result, my head and shoulders were about three inches in front of where they should be (directly above the pelvis) so my centre of gravity was wrong. As a result, I was hunched over, in constant pain and it was getting worse.

I had an operation to correct this earlier this year, as shown in the previous photos.

These was years before I got my Digital Rebel, so the photo was taken in a hurry using a very crappy 35mm point-and-click, printed on 4x6, left in a shoebox for over a decade and then scanned in quickly as a GIF, so there's not much detail.

turns out the cadaver bone graft really likes my jaw. we’re are one!

all the missing jaw bone that had dissolved away from the infection that i never felt has now been replaced with bone grown from the cadaver graft.

Bone Graft EP Launch - Golden Age Cinema and Bar - 02/03/2019

Bone Graft EP Launch - Golden Age Cinema and Bar - 02/03/2019

while i was talking on a phone call at work with a lot of participants, the stitches came unstitched and the membrane holding the cadaver bone graft to my mandible popped out. i think i spontaneously muttered something like, "oh [BLEEP], something just fell out my mouth,” to everyone on the call.

it's not clear if I swallowed the cadaver graft :-(

soooooo, back to oral surgeon tomorrow. in an uncharacteristic display of restraint I won't take a picture of membrane.

with a gaping hole in my mouth, i’m back to diet consisting entirely of mushy bananas and yogurt.

still no pain though!

My right leg in mid-January, 2008. The most screws I've had in a single day ...(I think).

One week after surgery, swelling is starting to go down. Some bruising is still present on my forearm and in the pinky and ring fingers... no idea why there.

This picture is my submission for week 42 of the 2013 View52 project.

They are not spots on my neck, they are where they stapled a blue dressing to my skin and the drain got inserted then pulled out! Eeeewwwwww

Life has got better for me with my new neck so I thought I'd upload this to celebrate and share this with all you gruesome scar lovers out there.

did i, or did I not, swallow a cadaver bone graft? back visiting the oral surgeon and it turns out, i’m all clear! I am fused with the cadaver graft! which, i guess, makes me a human/cadaver hybrid.

when i told the oral surgeon i hadn’t taken any pain medicine because i hadn’t felt any pain she looked surprised a little skeptical, "maybe you should just be happy you're not in pain. you're unusually lucky."

"i don't think you understand how much I can overthink this."

The occlusal view 4 months after the block graft. Notice the thickness of the ridge.

One week after surgery, swelling is starting to go down. Some bruising is still present on my forearm and in the pinky and ring fingers... no idea why there.

These were taken today, three months after the operation I had to correct my posture and really bad backache.

The metalwork on the left of the image (side R) is from an operation I had when I was 14 to fuse my spine in six or seven places to correct scoliosis. That left me with "Flat-back Syndrome", meaning bad posture and constant backache for the past 17 years or so. This recent operation (incl. the metal on the centre-left and on the right, ie. side L) has changed my posture again, making it more "normal", albeit fixed in position. You can just see where the original metalwork has been cut (near the middle) for the second operation.

The bone graft seems to have taken, and is doing well. Still some way to go before I'm playing Twister, though.

The NHS doesn't seem to like patients having copies of their X-rays, but the consultant was nice enough to let me take some pics of them up on the light box, which explains the dark stripe.

Well, it didn't heal even after the surgery :o(

Found out yesterday. Unfortunately, I'm back in hospital 2 weeks tomorrow for another bone graft. Looks like rugby is out for another season, lucky I got Troy (who is full of beans) to keep me active and hopefully fit!

Thanks everyone for your comments and support :o)

You probably don't need to be a french doctor to spot the problem. The December 2007 bone graft is also rebroken. Photo taken by Dr. Stone at Chamonix hospital, September 2008.

had to have some periodontal work done today. I was awake for the whole thing... with a couple tranquilizers and an iPod to take my mind off of it. Tho, the bone-scraping noises are still echoing in my head. TMI, I know, but I had to share!

I thought it funny he chose white thread for the stitches-- like a wedding gift or something. Such a re-gift...

My right leg in October 2008 after a second bone graft and new plate.

X-ray of the area of my mandible that had a bone graft (srBMP-2) at the site of the impacted wisdom tooth in February 2011. there's still a large socket area behind my second molar, but it's better than before, though I'm still getting discomfort and food particles impacted back there. Note the bump, which wasn't there before, and the multiple small holes where the oral surgeon drilled into my jaw to place pins holding in the graft.

The xrays were taken immediately after my front bottom teeth, FOUR of them, were removed. Notice slots for teeth in the xray. Those slots are now filled in with bone grafts! And boy was that fun!
