I had to stop one more time and visit the bond waterfalls here in the U.P. of Michigan before my 8 hour drive home, just a stunning place to see and relax.
In keeping with the stilt photo posted earlier, some pair bonding between Cardinals in my back yard. Glendale, Missouri
This image is just a humble but wholehearted tribute to the man I have admired most in my life. I took it just four days before he passed away at age 93. The metastasis in his brain had him unsettled and delirious during the last few days of his life, and holding his hand seemed to give him peace, at least for a short while. When I see this photo a hint of sorrow certainly hits me, but the overwhelming feeling is gratitude to this unaffected yet great man I had the privilege to call “dad” for more than fifty years.
This pup's best chance is a strong bond with it's mom. This mama seems to have a very good one with her pup. She helped it in every way she could. I observed a lot of bonding activity including the pup riding on her back. You can see how difficult it is for the pup to stay on the log.
**We have been allowed to come home**
Yes, we have been evacuated again. This fire is closer to where we live. It was started when SCE shut the power off. Some guy who had not been maintaining his generator, switched it on: it exploded.
We're fine. The cats are fine.
I don’t know what they sell from this shed, but they give Gold Bond Stamps. Maybe they sell paddle boats or Coca Cola. Remember when we had those booklets to paste our Green Stamps and Gold Stamps into. You had to collect thousands to get anything good from the redemption store. I liked to paste them into the book when I was a kid. Where have all the good times gone ...LOL?
Just back from a great trip to the Northwoods of Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan. We were fortunate to hit "peak" fall color which was as good as any we have seen in the Northwoods (smile!).

I like colorful fall reflections on water and I am always on the lookout for them. When I saw these at Bond Falls in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan I was amazed. The day before in the afternoon there was nothing like this, but at 9:00 am the next day the river was covered in color. I went to work and recorded many different images.
To make this I had to use a tripod, shoot at 100 ISO, have a slow shutter, and a small aperture. I spent most of my time shooting the little mini-falls that precede the dramatic bottom falls.
Camera settings: ISO 100, aperture f/13, shutter .3 sec, focal length 48 mm

Bonding Ritual?
Even though I could not see a nest or chicks, I watched this pair of Black-necked Stilts very aggressively defending a small island at Bombay Hook NWR. If shorebirds landed close by one would fly off to chase them away, if a gull or Osprey got too close both would chase it away.
Besides this, on two or three occasions when there was no intruder, the pair flew up almost vertically close together, calling loudly then glided back to the island. I am speculating that this interesting behavior might perhaps be a bonding ritual.

Bond Falls is AMAZING - The first thing you see when approaching from the trail is the IMMENSE waterfalls which IS Bond Falls - but walking along the falls on the trail brings you back a bit further and it just seems to get better and better - I loved this particular spot as it depicts the beauty of the woods and the Waterfalls seeping through - and of course Autumn has arrived!!

The fish bite the best at night. I have photographed these 2 a few times now. The bond they have is amazing. Maybe we need a lot more fishing in the world today.

This is New York City shot at the corner of Bond and Lafayette streets. I like this shot in black and white, which is what I started out with back in the days before digital photography, back when you went out on your shoots with 20 rolls of film that would be developed later in your darkroom.
I do a lot of street photography with the versatile Olympus lightweight and portable mirrorless E-M1 Mark II Micro four=thirds camera and an Olympus Pro M.12-40mm F2.8 zoom lens. While this is an amazing zoom, I wonder what lies ahead, in better weather, when I shoot the streets with my newly acquired prime 12mm and 25mm (24mm & 50mm full frame equivalents) and how that might affect my photography.
Parenthetically, I often look at what equipment other contributors on Flickr use to get a particular shot. I learn a lot that way and it is one major reason why I spend time on Flickr and have a pro account. I'm disappointed when there's no info provided by others, or worse, when they are using artificially constructed non-photographic images to pass for real photography.
