My friend Imke who lived for several years in Yemen did this photo. It is her hand with a hennadesign typical for Hudaida and made with henna ala qatr (henna destilate)
For an account how destilated henna is made please read the thread: How "henna ala qidra" in Yemen is mixed at www.hennatribe.com/viewtopic.php?t=3043&sid=81df91ffc...
From Sunday night at the con. Don't know if this is the same body-paint model from Friday but it's definitely the same artist.
She truly has no body modesty.
Tech stuff: exposure level masked out in Photoshop (feathers are the worst!); Topaz Adjust (smooth & flat) filter applied to the background.
(Scanned from postcard) The Selk'nam or Ona people, and related tribes, were indigenous to inland Tierra del Fuego (and southern mainland Patagonia). They hunted guanaco and other animals. They were wiped out soon after the arrival of white missionaries and ranchers, mainly through disease but many were also hunted/murdered by ranchers whose sheep they stole. The survivors led a pitiful existance being forced to adopt European lifestyles on missions before slowly dwindling to extinction through disease, alcoholism and dispair. The only European to live amongst the Ona and learn their language and customs before they became extinct was E. Lucas Bridges - his account of his life in Tierra del Fuego, 'Uttermost Part Of The Earth' is highly recommended (new edition available from www.amazon.co.uk). Check out this Flickr site www.flickr.com/photos/jugueteriasur/2516037198/ for art inspired by these indigenous peoples by Santiago based artist Jugueteria.

9th NYC Bodypainting Day was held in Union Square. By the end of the painting, they formed a giant Circle of Hope with each person holding hands together, singing, dancing, sharing for our hopes and dreams. The opposite of hope is hopelessness, which can be an underlying feeling for many people in a world of bad news and challenging circumstances. It is essential that we all stand together in unity for a wonderful future filled with love and beauty that we can all share and pass along to those after us. There were many audiences, including male and female, watching the bodypainting. So many people are holding their camera and cellphone to take pictures of the male and female models.
