We took a boat tour several days ago to explore the landscape of limestone karst at the Trang An river complex. It was raining all day and there were only few tourists taking the ride. I took the above photo of the boats and the paddling ladies waiting for their turn to row. Each boat can take up to three passengers, is manually rowed, and has to navigate through a series of narrow caves going through the limestone karst. The boat ride took 1.5 hours to complete and our tour guide suggested a tip of 50,000 Vietnamese dong/boat, equivalent to 2 USD. Obviously we did not follow his well intended instruction.
Spirit Island is located on the remote end of Maligne Lake. The only way to get to this island is on a boat tour. You are allowed a half hour to explore the area and take photos. I was able to quickly get this shot after fighting off the other tourists to jockey a spot. ;)

To breathe the spirit of Amsterdam, you can't do anything better than strolling along the "Grachten". The 4 longest, Singel-, Heren-, Kaizers- and Prinsengracht are already 10 km long. Together with countless bridges and flanked by the typical narrow and often crooked houses, they provide a ton of motifs. This bridge at the intersection of Kaizersgracht and Reguliersgracht is one of the city's most famous photo spots. Here's a detail captured during the day while checking a camera position for the evening.
The big panorama is coming here soon. Stay tuned!
A high-contrast black and white study of the Zürichsee, taken from the deck of a ZSG (Zürichsee-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft) passenger boat. Looking south toward the Glarus Alps, with the midday sun creating deep textures and shimmering highlights on the water's surface.
Rowing makes you hungry, so .. a chat and some BBQ.

This bridge is similar to the nearby Grand Avenue Bridge. Both are examples of the first design of pony truss bascule bridge that Chicago came up with, often referred to as the second generation bascule bridge design. Additionally, the Chicago Avenue Bridge is historically significant for its unique concrete bridge tender house. This bridge was one of the first Chicago bascule bridges to employ a "permanent" bridge tender building that was constructed of materials more substantial than wood, which had been used previously.
This highly significant historic bascule bridge is slated for demolition and replacement!

The Boeing Corporate Headquarters. This building sits on three corners while the fourth is suspended over train tracks, supported by a truss on the roof. Of course none of this is visible in this photograph.
