A wallpaper in Turkish restaurant we went to in Madrid. It is a proud monument for Turkish people - The Blue Mosque in Istanbul.
Although the massive pillars supporting the dome within the Blue Mosque have been described as "oppressively big" and "elephant feet", the sheer scale of the interior is breathtaking.
This is the view from our hotel's rooftop terrace where we had breakfast every morning the first 4 days in Istanbul. Practically every building in the Sultanahmet has one and there are workmen building another across the street. We could see the Sea of Marmara and the Bosphorus as well - quite a view.
After the call to prayer visitors are not allowed inside the mosque for about an hour so that people can pray without a bunch of tourists gawking at them. This is the courtyard that we waited in.
