This past summer we rented an apartment for a week in Istanbul. What a fantastic city! I will be uploading favorites into my stream. It is fun to take the time to go back an actually process images from the trip.

I processed this one in photoshop to warm up the tones, bring up the shadows and add a border. Happy Slider Sunday!

In September 1975, I got onto the flat roof of the Buyuk Ayasofya Hotel, on Caferiye Sokak, to take this photo of the Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Camii) in Istanbul.

It was built from 1609 to 1616, during the rule of Ahmed I.

Nineteen year old Sultan Ahmed displeased budget-conscious elders by raiding the Ottoman treasury to bankroll this architectural world wonder in 1606. Regard the Blue Mosque as yet another argument against charge cards for teenagers.

You'll find only 131,000+ photos of the Blue Mosque on Flickr. Most casual photographers shouldn't expect to do original work here. Sorry.

I waited in a modest line to enter the mosque, and removed my shoes before entering, as did this fellow American in 2009:
