The Reverend Gary Davis was a giant figure in American music, the preeminent ragtime guitar player of his generation and a famous street preacher on the streets of Harlem in the Sixties. He was known to offer lessons for five dollars and taught many of the famous stars of the seventies when they beat a path to his door. He was a raconteur second to none and pretty salty in his secular mode, and like a ringing bell when he preached or played gospel. In America we celebrate the lives of Black Americans in February, so I am sending this with peace and love to all my lovely friends. (original watercolor 98x68 cm 2-12-23)

Many African countries and cultures have tragic histories related to colonial times and sad news from today - the two are linked. People's lives are therefore always complicated to say the least, and so we should not judge quickly those in the many diasporas that are underway. My reading for Canadian Black History Month.
