On July 12th, a group of owners of classic cars, some of them true relics, gathered near the Aveiro Congress Center to hold an exhibition followed by a parade.
It was difficult to get a photo of a single car due to the crowd of vehicles on display and people, so out of the approximately 100 photos I took, I selected this one to share here, especially since this particular vehicle has always attracted me.
In the future, if visitor turnout justifies it, I will share some more photos from this event.
The day is folding into itself, but the street refuses to darken. Under a sky bruised with clouds of fiery gold, the ancient cobblestones hold their breath, a testament to centuries of silent footsteps. D-PB 566, a sleek, modern black wagon, sits poised like a contemporary gargoyle on the stone corridor, its rear lights a vibrant red, marking a moment in time before the inevitable night.
Further up the street, the warm, golden lights of a small shop spill out onto the pavement, an inviting hearth in the encroaching gloom. A distant tower, older than memory, watches over the scene. The two figures on the right, clad in warm coats, pause in their journey, perhaps sensing the ephemeral beauty of this specific sunset. This isn't just a parking street; it’s a living museum where the past and present collide under a sky that seems to set the world on fire. Every stone, every light, and every parked car is a silent actor in this urban drama.
This little "Black Beauty" caught my eye due to its unique, and what I find to be, very cute design. It's 1:38 scale with a metal body, rubber tires and both doors open! Spring loaded too: pull it back in reverse, let go and off it goes!
This is a color photo. There are a few interesting and subtle colors in the hub caps, windshield, rear bumper, interior and deep blue highlights on the body: even though the body is completely black!

47th Scottish Transport Extravaganza 8th & 9th July 2023
The Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club will once more hold their 47th Scottish Transport Extravaganza in the magnificent grounds of Glamis Castle over the weekend of 8th & 9th July.
This event is regarded as the premier vintage motoring spectacular in Scotland and is one of the largest of its kind in Britain.
This display will bring together over 1700 vehicles representing a wide array of transport comprising veteran, vintage and classic vehicles and machinery (cars, commercials, military, tractors, steam engines, motor cycles, static engines and exhibits)
A significant part of the display is created by the various car clubs who attend this event. In addition to the vehicles the event attracts over 150 Stands including auto jumble, motor trade, antiques and fundraising stalls.
In the ring to entertain this year we will have Flyin Ryan Motorcycle Stunt Show with their exciting stunt show, which is set to thrill the crowds.
Filling each day will be the usual variety of parades and pipe bands and amusements for adults and children of all ages.
To cater for the multitude of event goers a healthy selection of quality food vendors will be present to provide snacks, refreshments, full meals or simply a cool ice cream.
Holding the Extravaganza in the grounds of Glamis Castle provides a magnificent backdrop to our event and guided tours of the Castle are available to those who wish to participate.
It’s with great pleasure that we confirm that the 2012 37th Scottish Transport Extravaganza will go ahead finally this year!! Get the dates in your diaries and keep your eyes peeled for entry forms and further information in the next few weeks! Saturday 7th and Sunday 18th July
A massive range of makes and models spanning over 100 years of motoring history will be on display at Glamis Castle this weekend.
A record number of entries were received by Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club (SVVC) for the Saturday and Sunday Scottish Transport Extravaganza, which is expected to attract a five-figure crowd.
The vehicles cover all forms of motoring from an 1881 Penny Farthing to a 520bhp Noble Works which was built by Lee Noble and previously owned by TV presenter James May of Top Gear fame.
A Series 1 Land Rover which once belonged to Castle Motors in Forfar – once the town’s biggest – will also be on display after being purchased and preserved by the club.
Visitors will come from across the world to attend the rally which takes in everything from bicycles and cars of every marque to military vehicles and articulated trucks.
Stephen Dear from SVVC said: “This year’s Extravaganza is the 43rd event to be held in the grounds of Glamis Castle and continues to be one of the premier vintage/classic vehicle rallies in Scotland and beyond.
“This year we have a record number of entrants over the weekend with approx 1,500 entries received.
“This year we also have 51 different car clubs covering all makes and interests displaying their vehicles.
“We have approximately 150 mixed traders selling a variety of wares and also a craft marquee.”
The ring entertainment this year will be the Joseph Peace Fire Stunt Spectacular – blending fire stunts with comedy in a fusion of modern circus and pantomime fun.
R. H. Lea and G. I. Francis started the business in Coventry in 1895. They branched out into car manufacturing in 1903 and motorcycles in 1911. Lea-Francis built cars under licence for the Singer company. In 1919, they started to build their own cars from bought-in components.
From 1922, Lea-Francis formed a business relationship with Vulcan of Southport sharing manufacturing and dealers. Vulcan supplied bodies to Lea-Francis and in return received gearboxes and steering gear. Two six-cylinder Vulcan-designed and manufactured cars were marketed as Lea-Francis 14/40 and 16/60 as well as Vulcans. The association ended in 1928 when Vulcan stopped making cars.
A sporting image began to appear from about 1925, leading to models such as the Hyper and the Ace of Spades. The Hyper, also called the S-type, was the first British supercharged production car with a 1.5 litre Meadows engine, and in 1928 a Lea-Francis Hyper won the Ulster TT, a 30-lap race on the 13.5-mile (21.7 km) Ards circuit on the roads of Northern Ireland driven by race car driver Kaye Don. The race was watched by a record 250,000 spectators and the victory placed Lea-Francis firmly on the map.
