In reverse, saying that everyone who is now a sinner (that would, by standard Christian theology, be everyone) has an opportunity to become a better person.
The Altenberger Dom (or Bergischer Dom) is the former abbey church of Altenberg Abbey which was built from 1259 in Gothic style by Cistercians. Listed as a cultural heritage, it is located in Altenberg, now part of Odenthal in the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Sprinting to victory!
March, 27 - BINIAM GIRMAY (2000) secured a place in the history books in the Flemish classic GENT-WEVELGEM. The 21-year-old Eritrean was already the 'teddy bear' in the Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert team, but now also manifests himself as the showpiece of the team leader Hilaire Van der Schueren's formation. And to say that he had never heard of the Flemish hills like the "Kemmelberg" and cobblestones...
How does the radio communication work? “He hardly says anything,” said Hilaire Van der Schueren. “During the race he came to ask for a rice cake and he took a second one. 'yummy' that's about all he said."

This is for everyone but especially long-time flickr contact Pilar from Granada, Spain.
As the 2024 edition of the Tour de France came to a conclusion this last weekend, we discovered that we had both been at the 2006 race. Pilar posted several photos including this link taken during Stage 11 flic.kr/p/2q56rMi
My photo above was taken a day later, Bastille Day. It was a stiflingly hot day in Carcassonne and the photo shows the stage winner, Ukrainian Yaroslav Popovych. After 208kms, he is speeding around the last bend into the finishing straight.
Fast forward to 2024 and this was my 38th television Tour de France, highlights being watched each evening as our annual summer sporting treat. Congratulations to the winner Tadej Pogacar as well as Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel who also made the podium. Huge kudos also goes to Biniam Girmay, winner of the Green jersey composition, for finally putting African cycling on the map. Finally, double kudos to Mark Cavendish for becoming the cyclist with the most TdF stage wins ever, 35 of them. Fierce but friendly rivalry; blood, sweat and tears; lots of unfolding subplots plus fine Italian and French scenery all made it another excellent three weeks of racing.
The Tour de France remains one of the very few major sporting events that you can see for free and without tickets if you happen to be in the right place at the right time. Vive le Tour!

BINIAM GIRMAY (2000) is an Eritrean cyclist who is riding for the Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux team of sports director Hilaire Van der Schueren as from August 2021. He became the first African winner of a cycling classic with his victory in Gent-Wevelgem in 2022.
At the 2021 World Championship in Leuven, Belgium, he took silver in the U23 road race, becoming the first black African cyclist to win a medal at the World Championship. When he returned home to Eritrea, he received a hero's welcome.
In 2022, Girmay finished 5th in the E3 Saxo Bank Classic and won Gent-Wevelgem in a sprint with four… a career that will have more highlights in the future. To be continued...

Mathieu van der Poel's thumbs up for Biniam Girmay's sprint victory! An example of sportsmanship, as it should always be.
Tuesday, May 17: Stage 10, Pescara - Jesi, 196 km
BINIAM GIRMAY (2000) has written another page of history in the voluminous Giro book. The Eritrean became the first black person of African origin to win a stage in a Grand Tour. But what must have been a very happy day ended in the hospital when the cork of the bottle of prosecco on the stage hit him full in the eye. Perhaps there is better celebration with a bottle of Italian wine?
A new milestone for the Eritrean. In 2021 he became the first black person of African origin to take a medal at the World Cycling Championships by taking silver in Leuven, Belgium, at the 'amateur' race (under 23). In March 2022 he booked his first classic victory in Gent-Wevelgem and now also a stage victory in a Grand Tour has been added.
Girmay is definitely a man on a mission.

PS - Due to this 'cork in the eye' accident Girmay had to leave the Giro the next day...
July 28 - The after tour criterium in Herentals in honor of celebrated fellow citizen WOUT VAN AERT, green jersey and most combative rider of the Tour de France. Next and behind the celebrated Wout ride Belgian champion 2020 Dries De Bondt, Biniam Girmay and Belgian champion 2022 & 2019 Tim Merlier.
A wildly excited crowd (approx. 40,000) most of of Wout van Aert supporters admired their green hero, especially when Woutje was (ofcourse) flagged as the winner at the end of the evening.
