The Big Prawn is about 4 metres tall and is constructed in fiberglass. It is located outside of the Ningaloo Visitor Centre and is one of Exmouth’s quirkiest attractions.

The Big Prawn Located in the centre of town the Big Prawn pays tribute to the prawn fishery and the Kailis family who were influential in starting the industry in Exmouth. The Big Prawn once stood at the entrance to MG Kailis Gulf Fisheries factory at Learmonth and was donated to the town of Exmouth by the Kailis family in 2013.

On Christmas day we always have a cold buffet.

Doing the 'work' the afternoon before, LOL

This year: smoked salmon with tartare sauce, some big prawns, potato salad, lobster pate, filled eggs with shrimps, small tomates crevettes sprinkled with fresh parsley.

Bon Appétit, and thank you, M, (*_*)

Ballina's Big Prawn is another of Australia's iconic big things. Built in 1989, the Big Prawn has undergone a makeover and was reopened in July 2013. It now has a tail! It is situated adjacent to Bunnings Warehouse on River Street.

The giant crustacean is available for public viewing (and photos) at all hours of the day and night.

Come see another of Australia's big things and while here grab your own fresh catch from one of the seafood stores on the opposite side of the road.

The Big Prawn stands 9 metres high and weighs 35 tonne. The restoration cost to add a tail and give the prawn a much needed makeover cost Bunnings $400,000 in 2013.

Well, seeings we are talking about the big prawn, here is a picture of me doing my best impression of a prawn in 1994.

Ballina's Big Prawn originally built in 1989 at a Ballina petrol service centre is another of Australia's iconic big things.

The final switch of traffic to all lanes of the Ballina Bypass occurred on 28 April 2012 resulting in the Ballina service centre soon becoming financially unviable. The Service Centre with the Big Prawn attached was closed down leaving the future of the Big Prawn in serious doubt.

Ballina's much loved 'Big Prawn' was saved in the nick of time from demolition when hardware Chain, Bunnings agreed to retain the iconic landmark on the site after they purchased the former River St service centre land for the new Bunnings Store.

The 9 metre high giant crustacean was then completely renovated by Bunnings at a cost $400,000, given a tail, and re-erected directly adjacent Bunnings huge new Ballina store which opened in July 2013.

The Big Prawn at Ballina, NSW. I believe the buliding underneath was originally a service station, you have to wonder what they were thinking.

We stop at the Big Prawn in Ballina, unfortunately it was closed and surrounded by a chain link fence. When it was open you could climb into the head and look out the eye, which was strangely pointed at the parking lot across the street.
