Elder being stands silently in the woods, counting years as minutes of its life, remembering times no one remembers. A tree that big, that old, what are we compared to it? Just a shadows that appear with the sunrise and vanish with the sunset.
This huge eucalyptus tree occupies the center of a traffic circle on the UC Berkeley campus. Traffic is very light on campus, as cars are restricted. Eucalyptus trees were imported to California in the late 19th century for potential lumbering, but it never proved successful. Since then, they have proliferated. They work in their native Australia, here they contribute largely to the possibility of FIRE and are an increasing problem. They drop a great deal of combustible waste (leaves, peeling bark, full of oil), and are messy. In some areas controlled by the university they are being removed and discouraged.

One of the better looking specimens I've seen while gawking at Joshua Trees in the Mojave. I was looking for mutant, misshapen ones and that doomed me to find move-star-tree-shaped specimens.

Looking back at the timestamps on my images we only spent about 35 minutes at the beach before retreating back to the car for a Costa breakfast. Given more time I would have liked to have walked further down the beach towards the off-shore wind farm. I think there are some interesting opportunities there with the right background sky.
I tried a couple of long exposures from afar but these are too "naff" to post. Most of the blades are missing making the masts look like a field of blown dandelions with only the stems remaining so this is the last shot on the way back. You can actually see Blackpool Tower and the Big One from here, but not in my shot.
PS... anyone guess the link?
Night photo taken in the since demolished Alderley Plaza / BiLo complex in it's last few days of operation. Most of the other businesses had moved out over the last few weeks and months. I love the mix of colours in this photo (red from traffic light, yellow from street lamp, and green from fluoro light).

Moss clings to rocks along the Galiano Island coastline. It wasn't a great day for shooting on Sunday, but the Galiano scenery begs to be photographed, regardless of the weather.
