The mill that stands today was rebuilt between 1878 and 1880.
It is also locally known as Gresham's Mill.

Built in 1936-1937 by students and staff. It was a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Howard Frost from Los Angeles, Ca. It was named for their son, John Frost, who died in his youth. It was designed by Samuel Inman Cooper.
The Chapel features wooden beamed ceiling, flagstone floor, leaded glass windows, slate roof and three beautiful stained-glass windows.
America's Foremost Indian Theatre. The Kimo Theatre expresses architecturally the traditions of New Mexico and the old Southwest. One of the few typically American Indian architectural expressions, with a suggestion of the Spanish in its contours, this unusual edifice , both inside and out, provides an atmosphere of historical romance unequalled elsewhere in America.

Opened Sept. 19, 1927 at a cost of $150,000, with 1,321 seats originally. Now a performing arts venue. It is said to be haunted.

Ground Breaking Sept. of 1897 and completed in 1898. Architect: William Martin Aiken and Contractor Charles A. Moses. Built at a cost of $32,243.00, the lowest of the 14 bids submitted.
It measures 62' 2" by 62' 2" overall. Has 20 dormers with 5 on each side and 4 copper eagles, one on each corner.
It now serves as a Museum.

Bristol, Tn.
Have two dates when it was built. 1922 or 1929-- 26,000 sq. ft. building now used as Billiard Parlor. When I was growing up we called them pool halls.
Built in 1895 by Judge A.E. Singleton. It has the original wood shingles on the turret.
I like the turret.
I like the architecture of this old building, especially the two different styles of arches on the two stories.
Broadway & 10th Avenue.
This L&N Railroad Station was built 1898-1900 in Victorian Romanesque Revival style. Architect: Richard Montifort. The station opened Oct. 9, 1900 with service from 8 railroad companies. The peak business was the years of World War II and afterward business steadily decreased and the station was closed entirely in Oct. 1979. The massive train shed (said to be the largest of its type in the world) was demolished in late 2000.
Union Station was re-opened in late December of 1986 after millions of dollars of renovation, as a hotel.

Passenger service was discontinued in the late 1950's, and the building served as railroad offices for the G.M. & O. Railroad until 1986. The building stood vacant for 15 years, and suffered demolition by neglect. In 2001 the City of Mobile and a private company spent over $18,000,000. to restore the local landmark. Today the building houses private offices and the City Metro Transit Authority.
The Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroad primary route was from Mobile, Al. & New Orleans, La., to St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri, as well as Chicago, Illinois. From its two parallel lines through Eastern Mississippi, the G.M.& O. also served Montgomery and Birmingham, Al. as well as Memphis, Tn.

This is my ALL TIME FAVORITE Train Station and Depot.
Built 1860-1874 in NeoClassical design and sits on 40 acres of land-Architect M. Frederic Butler. The California Capitol design is based on the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. 3 floors and the Dome height is 210 ft and with antenna is 247 ft. Complete restoration in 1984.

Built in 1890 and has housed a variety of Commercial and Retail Stores in its history.
Built in 1893 by Alexander Woodson "A.W." Ashford & wife Elizabeth (Loula) Ashford.
They lived in the house with their 9 children.
A.W. owned a general store,a gas station, cotton gin; he was a cotton planter and the president of the Oconee County Bank. In 1893 he built his home (The Ashford Manor) and the Ashford Memorial Methodist Church.

Elli's is a beautiful building with the Arched Entrance and Turret. The store opened in November of 2008.
Downtown Uniforms to the left is vacant and for lease.

It is the site of candidacy announcements by Abraham Lincoln in 1858 and Barack Hussien Obama in 2007.
From 1876 until 1966 the old capitol served as the County Court House of Sangamon County.

Bolivar, Tn.
Construction began on the hospital in 1885 and was finished in 1889. It was designed by the McDonald Brothers Architects of Louisville, Ky.
The hospital has been downsized and now has 247 bed facility.
The hospital is on the NRHP as the Western State Hospital district. Placed on the NRHP June 25, 1987---No. 87001057.
Located next ot Fayette County Court House.
Love the design of these Law Offices.
Built in 1911 in neo-classical style as Fayette County Bank.
2001 H. Street
Opened Christmas day of 1930, designed by architect S. Charles Lee with seating capacity of 1,500,. Spanish Colonial Revival with atmospheric style featuring a plain ceiling set with twinkling lights to resemble stars in the night skies.
Now a venur for concerts, musicians, comedy and movies.
Established by Major James Isbell in 1869. One of only five remaining Terra Cotta Architecural buildings east of Mississippi River. Architectural firm Chisolm and Green of Anniston, Al. designed this GREAT looking building.

Talladega, Al.
This wonderful Masonic Hall built in 1905 and was across the street from the depot and was the site of the Post Office.
M.W. Smith Building
Ground floor is the Georgia South Barbecue and has reputation for good food.
This WONDERFUL building constructed in 1916 by J.L. (Judson Larrabee) Hand. Mr. Hand was on a business trip to Chicago when he first saw the Marshall Field building in Chicago and decided to build this large store in Pelham. At the time it was the largest department store in South Georgia. 98,330 sq. feet,--100 Massive Columns that ran from the foundation to the roof.--A dome painted by an Italian artist--409 windows. It closed in 1984.
This building is on an NRHP district but for the life of me I can't see why it isn't singularly listed.
The Shorter Mansion is a Classical Revival style home.Built by Eli Sims Shorter II in 1884 .Did extensive remodeling in 1901-1906. Shorter died in 1908 but his wife Wileyna Lamar Shorter lived there unti 1927. Several family members lived there until the early 1960's. The Eufaula Heritage Association bought the house at auction in 1965 and in 1966 held the city's first pilgramage.

I think this is the old National Life Insurance Building built in 1891 and now serves as the Vermont Dept of Agriculture Building. Any information and or corrections would be appreciated.

Since Cotton Mill closed had been used as a huge Antique Mall, Restaurant, and Jazz Club.
The building used for Antique Mall was torn down years ago.

Cullman founded by German Immigrants and has a large Catholic population
651 Mulberry St.
Built originally as The Academy of Music in 1884. Architects were Alexander Blair and W. R. Gunn. The Grand Opera House, also called the Grand was originally known as The Academy of Music, In 1905 the seven story building was erected in front of the old Academy of Music but the elaborate auditorium was left intact. Seating was 2,418 and had the largest stage in the Southeast. By the 1920's the building was in decline and began showing movies. In the 1960's it ceased showing movies, and plans were made to replace it with a parking lot (Progress, don't you know). The Macon Art Council saved it in 1967 and began renovations. Today it is managed by the Mercer University as a live theatre.
The Grand Opera House has hosted Charlie Chaplin, Sarah Bernhardt, Will Rogers, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Lionel Barrymore, Ethel Barrymore, Bob Hope, The Allman Brothers Band, Ray Charles, and the magician Harry Houdini and John Phillip Sousa band.

Andrew College began after receiving a Charter from the Georgia General Assembly in 1854. The college serves as a Junior College in Liberal Arts. It is associated with the United Methodist Church. It was named after Bishop James Osgood Andrew of the Methodist-Episcopal Church-South. The college began as Andrew Female College.
It served as a hospital for the Confederate Soldiers in the Civil War. It was consumed by fire in 1892 and the citizens of Cuthbert began rebuilding immediately afterward. It sits on 40 acres of land and its mascot is the Fighting Tigers.
Also known as the Hood Hospital
The Chester Inn is now owned by the state of Tennessee and hosts a history museum documenting Jonesborough from its very first days to present.
Built in the late 1790's, this is the oldest commercial structure in Tennessee's OLDEST Town and once accommodated presidents such as Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk and Andrew Johnson. Andrew Jackson was even threatened with tarring and feathering, fought a fire in his nightshirt and hosted a reception at this legendary inn.

The Depot was built in 1886-1887. It is self-proclaimed to be the most beautiful rail station in the North America. The station is now used as the Wyoming Transportation Museum.
The station is built from blocks of sandstone quarried and transported from Ft. Collins, Colorado. The Depot stands directly down the street from, and facing the Wyoming State Capitol building, signaling its historic significance in the city and state.
Out front of the Depot is an 8 ft. Cowboy Boot.

In reviewing some old photos I ran across this photo of the Masonic Lodge in Rome. I think this is a better photo plus the Masonic sign is shown here but it is not on the other photo. This photo dates from Sept. 2004.
Cornerstone laid Oct,. 6,1877 and the Temple was dedicated on May 21, 1879.
Born 1831 in Buffalo, N.Y. and moved to Barnesville, Ga. in 1866 and began manufacturing buggies, considered the largest buggy factory south of the Potomac. At least 3 other companies produced buggies between 1865-1910 and Barnesville called itself the "Buggy Capital of the World. Smith's factory produced over 11,000 buggies a year.
Jackson died Dec. 11, 1925.
Barnesville, Ga.
Macon's 1916 Terminal Station is Georgia's grandest surviving railroad station. It was designed by Alfred Fellheimer (1875-1959) on 13 acres of land. Fellheimer along with his partners designed railroad stations in Cincinnati, Buffalo and other cities. In 1926-27 the station handled as many as 100 arrivals/departures each day.Trains of Central of Georgia, Southern Railway, Georgia Southern and Florida,, Georgia Railroad, Macon, Dublin and Savannah and Macon and Birmingham, and the passageners accesed the train platforms by way of a tunnel under the tracks.
After closing in 1975 the building stood unused several years until it was pruchased by 'Georgia Power Co. in 1982 and used as its local offices in the 1980's and 1990's. In 2002 the City of Macon received one million dollars in TEA funds to purchase the building from Georgia Power Co. and converted it into a retail, office space, and multi-modal transportation center.
