Knowing the signalling protocols of this area, the red lights say it all. No point waiting for a train here, there's nothing coming! Nice atmospheric morning though.

Excessive tweaking in Color Efex, and then a big dollop of de-haze added in Photoshop...Happy Sliders Sunday everyone :-)

One of my Linseed/Flax images taken in very bright sunshine but luckily the wind dropped. The sun hitting the back of these little flowers lit them up just as if they were plugged into the electricity.

Beacon Island Resort, in the heart of the picturesque Garden Route region, is one of the Western Cape’s premier holiday destinations. This award-winning Plettenberg Bay hotel and resort offers natural forests, mountains, sun-kissed beaches, and the vastness of the ocean – the ideal relaxing getaway for the entire family.

Ditchling Beacon is the highest point in East Sussex, England, with an elevation of 248 m. It is south of Ditchling and to the north-east of Brighton. It is a large chalk hill with a particularly steep northern face, covered with open grassland and sheep-grazing areas. Wikipedia

Ninepin rock appears to have a lighthouse, but it is only a beacon. Known for rock fishing, but safety is a concern on this rugged beach.

A beam of light suddenly shot straight up from the setting sun behind the mountains. I was driving and took precious time getting myself parked. The beam was fading as I scrambled to get my camera out of my bag. There was no time for a tripod, and it was getting dark, so this handheld image was the best I could capture. The whole moment was a thing of beauty, but eerie, portentous. Sky Pilot sending us a message?

"I had let want in, opened the door ever so slightly. But want without the belief you can get what you want is pointless. You have to hope, so I let that in too. You have to. To want things and go for them and believe, even in impossible situations...Hope was what you had when you had nothing else. Hope was the perfect shiny top on the Christmas tree, the glowing halo of every wish, the endless beacon of a lighthouse bringing tormented ships home at last."- Deb Caletti

Standing on top of the Dunstable Downs, England, and occasionally being used (at Easter for example). When lit, it can be seen from far away and so is in contact with other beacons across the country. It is a very old method of communication. Samyang wide-angle lens at F8 plus a polariser. Image has been cropped.

Sadly, we were not able to shoot the Milky Way in the Golden Canyon area of Death Valley National Park. However, with the help of Luminar I am able to create the sight we wanted to shoot.

Happy Slider Sunday!

So many different colours are apparent in autumn, with beautiful sunlight and the right conditions, woodland becomes a very mixed palette of colour.

A panoramic view right from the top of Painswick Beacon. The River Severn can be seen in the distance. Painswick Beacon is an Area of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB).

Firstly, good wishes to all my Canadian contacts; hope you enjoy Canada Day. I remember my visits to Canada very well. In the times we live in Canada is a beacon of light and decency .

This was taken early on our first morning in Stockholm. We got there very late the previous evening, so no opportunity to see anything . We were staying just across a canal from Stockholms Stadshuset (Town Hall ), so we saw it frequently. It’s impressive from the outside, particularly its tower, but the interior is extraordinary. It stands on the eastern tip of Kungsholmen Island, next to Riddarfjärden's northern shore and facing the islands of Riddarholmen and Södermalm. It houses offices and conference rooms as well as ceremonial halls. It is the venue of the Nobel Prize banquet and is one of Stockholm's major tourist attractions. It is not an old building but was built in 1911. Ragnar Östberg was the architect.

This photo, like many others I took, includes water and a bridge, which is not surprising. The city stretches across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. The islands are connected by 58 separate bridges and metro tunnels.

The view north and east from Beacon Hill in Gringley on the Hill.

Another autumnal scene that grabbed my attention whilst exploring the Waterfall Walk in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The light on the wet rocks and leaves was only fleeting, but highlighted the slender roots of the tree that somehow manage to keep it alive and healthy on this precarious shelf above the thundering falls.

With temperatures over 20°C in West Wales in February these could be warning beacons of climate change!
