This year I told my young russian students about Thanksgiving day for the first time. We learned about the pilgrims, the indians and the turkey of course.
We decided to celebrate this day with making a "Thanksgiving Tree". We (mostly me) decorated it with ribbons, bows, threads, bells and buttons. Then my kids made kind of Thanksgiving cards to their family and friends and we hung them on our tree :)
To tell the truth, at first, 4-5 years-olds faced some difficulties with speaking about gratitude. It took them some time to realize how many people they could give their thanks to. And how many things are worth saying "thank you". But the more we talked about it, the easier it got.
So, my kids are grateful:
for their lives,
for their parents' love,
for some new skills they learned (cooking, playing basketball, reading, riding a bike, gymnatics, etc.),
for some presents like new dresses/new toys and sweets/fruit,
for time spent with friends and for their friends' help.
Encouraging them to think what does it mean to feel gratitude was my main goal. And, as I see it, we did it!
Also, I hope, making these cards with their own hands will help them not to forget Thanksgiving Day till the next year :)

*One of my objectives is to create an artistic image in the style of a Tom Thomson painting (even though he isn't officially considered in The Group of Seven, I definitely put him in there!). Although most may think this is a complete piece of crap...I'm somewhat happy with my first attempt.

Putra Mosque, Putrajaya Malaysia. Located south of Kuala Lumpur, is the new federal administrative centre of Malaysia. Driving from Kuala Lumpur is about 45 minute (normal traffic). Putrajaya is a planned city, beautiful and very nice place to visit.

Forget-Me-Nots. Hudson Mills Park.
Dooley and I took a quick run through Hudson Mills Park last night. Every time we go, which is pretty often, we are treated to newly blooming wildflowers. Last night the Forget-Me-Nots caught our attention, unassuming and so pretty in their smallness. Grouped together they make a sweet statement in the landscape.
In a world full of insecurity and troubles, how nice to consider the pleasures we can enjoy on a simple walk. There is plenty for which I am thankful today. Not the least is that I know so many people who work to alleviate the sufferings of others. All of us are broken and in need of something. Be that something for someone else today.

This section was full of abandoned toys and children clothes. It made us feel very uneasy, as if some grim scenario was left to our imagination. Later on, Bennett discovered that the Toys for Tots program used to be run out of this warehouse.
