and all the other places I've dived. These are the sandgrains and rust (?) buildup under the screwdown bezel. You should get some 70% Isopropyl alcohol to clean the glass. I didn't have any this time, but handcleaned and buffed the sapphire glass.
Update 2018: This Stinger is still going strong. Twice yearly battery upgrades.
Now the camera takes AAA batteries. With the door closed (and it still closes) you can't tell anything has been changed. The shutter works fine, as does the metering system and the electronic print timer. No more hunting around for rare batteries that cost the earth! :D

this is where I shortconnected (with a stapler!) black and white wires pins on HDD and connected them with replacement batterys P-.
P+ wire on the battery is connected to the corresponding red wire's pin on HDD.
It's easy to remove wires from the connector.
The Nokia BL-5C battery that is prone to "dislodge" when charging seen outside my Nokia N70. If you have this battery, you should check to see about getting a free replacement. The online form set up by Nokia said my "battery is not among those manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006 and will not be replaced." A month ago, Adam Curry talked about Nokia-branded BL-5C batteries that experienced overheating initiated by a short circuit while charging. In the case of a caller to the Daily Source Code, the incident battery blew out of the phone, bounced off a carpeted floor and left behind some smoke and soot. Nokia has several suppliers for BL-5C batteries who have collectively produced more than 300 million BL-5C batteries. This advisory applies only to the 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006, from which there have been approximately 100 incidents of overheating reported globally.
As you can see, it does not have the white wire. Also, the connector is somewhat smaller and different.

This is my second generation ipod mini. I've had it for about 3 years now and the battery life has started to suffer. I ordered a new one online and installed it today... and it even worked when I put it all back together. The battery was super cheap as these minis are a few years old now.

Apparently the Microdrives in these minis have the exact same pinouts as a Compact Flash card. Pop out the drive plug in a CF card and you can easily upgrade your 4 gig to an 8 gig. The only barrier is the cost of Compact Flash... which should continue to drop.

here i de-soldered one battery terminal and clipped off the other. this seemed easier to do at the time. the old battery is out!
I was watching TV last night when Watchdog came on. For those that don't know, it's a very good consumer affairs show. They had a segment on exploding Nokia batteries which I felt I should share.
The BL-5C battery (their most popular) is the only one affected. The dodgy batches suffer from overheating which the Nokia website says can cause the battery to "dislodge" but they don't mention that they are also known to explode. They say no injuries have been reported but read this and you'll see it's a lie.
If you go to http://nokia.com/batteryreplacement you can enter the battery identification number of any batteries of this type that you own. If yours is affected then you can fill in a short form with your details. They will send you a replacement, you just have to agree that when it arrives you will return your old battery in an envelope to be provided. One of mine is affected.
After many years of using their phones I had come to trust the Nokia brand, but after the piss poor performance of their N91 (three replacements in two weeks) and now this problem with the battery, I don't think I'll be so trusting.
Noticed the screen was bulging on my vintage iPhone 5 last weekend and guessed correctly this was because the original battery inside was beginning to swell - it's something rechargable batteries can do with age and heat.
Ordered up a replacement and switched them over - you can see here the difference in size between the good battery on the left and the swollen old battery on the right.
Replacement is simple - two screws on the case (needs a type of screwdriver called a pentalobe though) and two on the inside that cover the battery connector. Unclip the connector and swap out the batteries. My battery was lightly glued on the rear side which was a bit worrying at first but was easily pried up when understood.
Finally, when it was all rebuilt, the glass on the screen had separated slightly from the rest of the screen assembly. Took it apart again, disconnected the screen entirely (three screws, super easy) and then found it was a simple case of clicking the glass back into place with a bit of finger force - and added a couple of drops of glue to hopefully keep it in place permanently.
Reassembled again and have a fully working iPhone 5 with a brand new battery. Not bad for a 2012 model phone!
NB: Replacement battery, instructions and tools supplied by iFixit for 20 Euros.
