Basel 674 was built by Schindler in October 1990 as a 6-axle 2-section articulated tram. Between February and July 1998 it had a low floor centre section added. This centre section rides on single axles at each end resulting in a wheel arrangement of B-1-1-B.

It has the oldest university of the Swiss Confederation (1460). Basel is German-speaking. The local variant of the Swiss German dialects is called Basel German.
Basel is among the most important cultural centres of Switzerland. The city comprises a large number of theatres and many museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, the world's oldest art collection accessible to the public
