Can often be seen growing with Hogweed but differs in having round pink-to brown-tinged flowerheads with a green to purplish stem, a great attractive plant for pollinating insects. We tend to take for granted what pollinating insects do for us yet we have lost so much of our wild flower meadows in the UK and around the world there's the destruction of the rain forests and huge volumes of pesticides and herbicides (including the dreaded Roundup) being used that is taking its toll on the insect world. 75% of the food we eat is on our plates because of what pollinators do, will we ever learn. And for a bit of banter my Victoria Sponge cake could even become extinct in the near future.

The smaller of our two UK seal species, Common Seals are also known as Harbour Seals. Despite being called "Common", they are actually less common than Grey Seals!
The harbor (or harbour) seal (Phoca vitulina), also known as the common seal, is a true seal found along temperate and Arctic marine coastlines of the Northern Hemisphere. The most widely distributed species of pinniped (walruses, eared seals, and true seals), they are found in coastal waters of the northern Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Baltic and North Seas.
Harbor seals are brown, silvery white, tan, or gray, with distinctive V-shaped nostrils. An adult can attain a length of 1.85 m (6.1 ft) and a mass of 132 kg (290 lb). Blubber under the seal's skin helps to maintain body temperature. Females outlive males (30–35 years versus 20–25 years). Harbor seals stick to familiar resting spots or haulout sites, generally rocky areas (although ice, sand, and mud may also be used) where they are protected from adverse weather conditions and predation, near a foraging area. Males may fight over mates under water and on land. Females bear a single pup after a nine-month gestation, which they care for alone. Pups can weigh up to 16 kg (35 lb) and are able to swim and dive within hours of birth. They develop quickly on their mothers' fat-rich milk, and are weaned after four to six weeks.
The global population of harbor seals is 350,000–500,000, but subspecies in certain habitats are threatened. Once a common practice, sealing is now illegal in many nations within the animal's range.

A bit of friendly Saturday morning banter in the angling club boat shed. The eternal debate about what are the best fishing flies. Of course the answer is to be out on the water casting your line as you would have more success than drinking coffee in the shed :-D
Rosie lives to chase this squirrel and I am beginning to think that the squirrel lives to be chased by Rosie. They banter back and forth. Rosie runs at a phenomenal speed along the bottom of the fence line and the squirrel runs with the dexterity of an accomplished athlete on the top of the fence.
We waited years for a squirrel and now we have had a few generations of them. They are comical to watch and have entertained us over the years - especially during the cold winter months. They keep coming back, not only for the buffet that we put out daily but I am certain they enjoy the camaraderie they share with Rosie.
Most of my working life spent to the left of the Boom.....

With a little friendly banter an American white pelican (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos, Pelecanidae) bites its peer on the neck as if to say, "keep out of my space."

I met these two great guys on the summit of Slieve Donard. We had a wonderful bit of banter between us and they know my Wicklow mountains well as they often hike there. Serious climbers! They come from the Slieve Gullion area in the Cooley Mountains which is another stunning place on my list.
I hope they see this photo as I said id put it up here for them.
I just wanted to thank them for the craic, the wisdom and there kindness, and most of all the sweets and the Granola bar!

Finally, a day of sunshine after all the rain of the last days! We made most of the morning with a lovely walk around Fernworthy Reservoir in Dartmoor National Park. During our lunch break I sneaked off to visit a few Dartmoor ponies grazing in the sunshine.
I wish all of you lovely people a wonderful Christmas and like to thank you all for your fabulous comments, banter and criticism throughout the year.
I truly believe that next year will be better for a lot of us and I am looking forward to spending plenty more time outdoors with my loved ones and to see more of your terrific creative output here in flickr!

Horace recently bought a new car, yet after only a couple of days he was experiencing a problem with it, he was furious so he took it back to the dealer.🐷🚗👹
One of the technicians came out and asked what the problem was, Horace said it won’t go past 70 up our hill, the technician said what’s wrong with that, Horace said I live at 83.

Horace has been working overseas for many weeks and a pork of the job was a left hand drive courtesy car.
On his return I asked him to drive us to Crackpot Haven to capture a few images, yet he seemed a bit reluctant as having the steering wheel on the right again made him apprehensive.
After reassuring him that his driving would be okay, off we went, yes he hit the hedge a couple of times but no damage done.
Following a bit of a sunset we made our way back to the car, then Horace’s little face really lit up, there was a note on his windscreen which complemented him on his driving ability, it said ‘Parking Fine’

Lots of young elephants having the best time playing, on this visit to Africa. They were in an impressive herd and It was truly awesome to watch them develop those essential physical and social skills.

fantastic morning spent with a mate i havent seen in a while, good bit of banter followed by a coffee at mcdonalds, pity the sunrise was a bit featureless!!
A stunning display of poppies at West Pentire this year, I've never seen so many. I've never seen so many 'togs out capturing them either, there must have been twenty or more men & women through the evening, a good mix of abilities, cameras and ideas though and much good chat and banter.
Oh ... for a cloud or two!
Taken yesterday morning on a 10km circular route of part of the Wicklow Way. Its hard to believe that it was the second day of Winter though it was a little cold but Im always well prepared as you need to be. I used to hike in England with a crazy ex British army Para who, before a hike, would empty you bag out on the ground and tear strips off you for not having the correct gear and not packing it in the correct order, just in case there was an emergency. He was right though and what he thought me, has stood to me over the years!
I sat up here on a little cliff looking at this view while having tea and a soggy ham and cheese sandwich, which always seems to taste wonderful in places like this! The only sound were the calling of the Ravens riding on the thermals in front of me and keeping an eye on my food which I always share with them as the are totally loyal and mate for life, and are wonderfully intelligent birds. We all could learn a lesson!
Ive discovered a wonderful, crystal clear mountain spring here. It tumbles out from under a rock and the icy cold water tastes like fine wine! I dragged a container full home with me and its sitting in my fridge but not for long? Bottled water? No! Ive never bought it!
The mountain directly in front, with the cliff is Lugallaw [595m] and the one behind it is the majestic Mullaghcleevaun [842m] which is the second highest mountain in the County. A wild and dangerous place. Ive only climbed it twice as had to turn back on two other occasions as the weather changed. People have met their end up there. Looking at it from here, I can see how big it looks!
I did take my time up there yesterday as I was on my own and it was nice for a change. I met 3 people and had a nice conversation with them . I discovered I knew a brother of one of them! Its a small country and you wouldnt want to " be doing anything you`d be ashamed of " as they say here! Not that I ever would, well, Maybe, Sometimes, Often! Well I havent been caught so far anyway!!! lol!

I took this with my Nikon D90 and an 18-135 mm, F3.5-5.6.
I dont use it often when in the mountains as I find it a bit heavy and cumbersome. However it is a great camera.
Unfortunately, the camera doesnt have a Panorama function which is a drawback in my opinion, so I stitched two pics together . Pat.

I decide to update this photo as a lot of people havent seen it. I think it may be the best Ive ever taken.

Leaving late for this hike due to the usual family banter and activity keeping me up far later than I cared to be and to keep this story short it took me four hours of fighting traffic and hiking to get this waterfall and the area was already falling into deep shadow by the time I got here. Luckily it was a cool day where I packed the extra weight and bulk of my tripod and needed my wide angle to take this whole scene in.
The conductor on this westbound SALI looks like he has seen work before and knows how to avoid it! 😁 Have no fear, cause the section guy mentioned to the engineer that he gave the kid a "Sunday School Lesson" on how to clean a switch he'll never forget. The banter was fun as the crews got customers switched at Burlington on the way west to Limon. The night before wind and snow had some places blown in. The section guy said he started in 1985 and has no signs of quitting this summer when he turns 60. Railroads wouldn't be where they are today without these dedicated employees!!!!
Can't come to Flamborough and not take a few shots of the Drinking Dinosaur.
Turned into a impromptu morning of laughs and banter when I unexpectedly bumped into Phil Norton and Andrew Whettam. It was fairly busy as usual at this iconic Yorkshire coast location so after grabbing our shots here we moved on to North Landing which we had to ourselves.
I've visited here three times now and on my previous visits the tide has been quite a lot further in so it was good to see it in different conditions. Each time I've been here a pod of seals has been basking on the pebbled beach. They can just be seen here further out on the rocky strata between the beach and the dinosaurs head.

While a few crewmembers of a large fishing boat moored near the seashore do a cleaning work, others spend the early morning hour just bantering with each other.

From my own personal point of view this is my idea of photography heaven.
Just being in the sea when it is all kicking off and being at one with nature, the sound of the waves crashing all around me is a joy to behold, Hoof and Horace normally stands on the beach laughing at my antics.
I am also very mindful of treating the sea with the upmost respect as it will always win, so in other words making sure I have no need to call the people a short distance away to my left who crew the impressive looking orange and blue Tamar class boat, aptly named ‘Spirit Of Padstow’ full respect to the volunteer crews of The RNLI who go out in all conditions with no complaints.

Its very strange to think that these old derelict building played such a large roll in the lives of the people who's work place was hundreds of feet beneath ours, all the conversations, laughs, banter and arguments played out in a world only they inhabited.
A big thank you to all the brave souls who provided us with light & warmth.
on Valencia Street in San Francisco, there was a deejay bantering with a family, a Deadhead on his phone, a used bookstore, and ice cream - all favorite ingredients for me.

I've really been enjoying myself photographing these lovely, local Barn Swallows. These two were just having some friendly playful banter with each other I think, before flying off insect catching together. It's easy to see how the Swallowtail Butterfly gets its name from this shot. I was disappointed not to able to see the eye of the bird on the right, but we can't have everything!
It was good to hear about the Swallow on BBC Springwatch last night, that had been identified from a ring as it nested at Ken Hill farm here in Norfolk, as being ringed near Thornham, Norfolk back in 2016 I think and was now here on a nest agin. Incredible - the average life span apparently is only 2 years, so as that little fellow had been making the journey back and forth to and from Africa for 5 years is an amazing story. Long may it continue!

First trip to photograph these amazing birds. Exciting visit despite the lack of predicted blue sky. Great banter from the regular crowd made for a very enjoyable morning.
SO I am walking down the road with my camera around my neck and this gentleman says have you taken any good photos,A said yes you. Haha.We had 5 mins chat,Didnt stop laughing, A good guy.
