Tanah Lot is claimed to be the work of the 16th-century Dang Hyang Nirartha. During his travels along the south coast he saw the rock-island's beautiful setting and rested there. Some fishermen saw him, and bought him gifts. Nirartha then spent the night on the little island. Later he spoke to the fishermen and told them to build a shrine on the rock, for he felt it to be a holy place to worship the Balinese sea gods.[3] The main deity of the temple is Dewa Baruna or Bhatara Segara, who is the sea god or sea power and these days, Nirartha is also worshipped here.[4]
The Tanah Lot temple was built and has been a part of Balinese mythology for centuries. The temple is one of seven sea temples around the Balinese coast. Each of the sea temples was established within eyesight of the next to form a chain along the south-western coast. In addition to Balinese mythology, the temple was significantly influenced by Hinduism.
At the base of the rocky island, venomous sea snakes are believed to guard the temple from evil spirits and intruders. The temple is purportedly protected by a giant snake, which was created from Nirartha's selendang (a type of sash) when he established the island.

This Portuguese Eurasian dish Debel Curry or Devil Curry is the most famous dish in the Eurasian cuisine. It is a rich and fiery hot dish, made with mustard powder, turmeric, vinegar, candlenuts and lots of dried chillies.
This dish is supposed to be made from leftover food. However, I bought most of the ingredients for cooking this curry. This was my 1st attempt though. I have not cooked a mixture of meat curry like this before. Devil curry is very different from the ones we normally consumed. Coconut milk is not used here. The combination of chicken, roast pork and bacon bones is really unique! Throughout the preparation, I have been asking ER for tips and prompting him to taste it because he had seen someone cooked and has eaten it before~. The obvious guideline I learnt from ER was, it should taste like the Malaysian Achar, the hot, spicy and tangy mixed vegetables that I used to cook. The final product was not bad, but Rika has yet to like the taste! - Jenny

We were met at the Denpasar Airport by our driver and guide, Putu.
Bali traffic is insane; a native driver is a must here. Putu's deft hand and calm demeanor inspires confidence.
As an aside, I'm less confident that this mouse running back and forth across the floor as I edit this photo won't end up scuttling across my feet. He's mortal cute, however.
