The Liverpool Lime Street to Bognor Regis May Day Bank Holiday excursion is on the Down Slow.
It was a very wet day! My one and only visit to Bognor Regis which I did as it offered some Southern Region milage direct from Liverpool!

The 1938 Odeon cinema on Balham Hill, designed by George Coles, was a prominent landmark in Balham. It opened in 1938 and later became the Liberty Cinema before closing in the 1970s. The auditorium was
demolished in the 1980s, and the front portion of the building is now occupied by a wine merchant and apartments (Ai overview)

Herriot Country!
Small winding roads, endless loose-stone walls, and green, oh so green!
The walls like veins through land.

I'm not sure if this building is actually still functioning as a hospital. It looks as though it's been/being converted to apartments. It was originally a 'Pauper Lunatic Asylum!' Some of the surrounding buildings, old & new are still in use.

455 821 Approaches Balham station through the heat haze on the last full weekend of 455 operation on the Southern. The Island platform here made a sunny side up shot difficult as the far island platform was closed on this weekend. I would be away for the Farewell Tour so this would be my last chance to get photos of these before they were retired the following Saturday. Many of the units had a little poster in the cab window and carriage windows showing their imminent retirement.
