This Bald Eagle found a fish on the ice and started eating it. When it left the ice it flew directly towards and over me to a Pine tree to finish the meal. Most of the photos had the wings clipped. The lighting is poor with a heavily overcast morning.

My first BE of the autumn. I have seen quite a few before this but without the chance of any good shots. My annual trips to Bald Eagle country are still to come.

An intense young eagle.

The bald eagle is actually a sea eagle (Haliaeetus species) that commonly occurs inland along rivers and large lakes.

Male Bald Eagle.

I was focusing on the head of the Eagle in its nest on the top of the tree to the left, when suddenly s/he took flight. I know this isn't a very good photo, but I was so thrilled to even get this shot.

This juvenile bald eagle was taken at the Cranberry Marsh Hawk Watch during migration. I happened to be on the beach when it came through and it flew right over my head. Needless to say all the ducks in the marsh took to the air and it was a toss up which I would photograph.

This bald eagle must have recently been in the water, as it shook off quite a bit of water!

Little stare contest with this fellow! I was able to get very close, one step at a time, took me good 10 minutes to approach him slowly, seating on ground with minimum movement possible. Finally he said its enough with wing ready to fly, I stopped and taken this shot. As you can see we had firm eye contact through out this session. hope you enjoy it.

Bald Eagles can live a long time. The oldest recorded bird in the wild was at least 38 years old when it was hit and killed by a car in New York in 2015. It had been banded in the same state in 1977.

These swamp-dwelling goliaths can grow to about 120 feet tall. This one and others in this swamp are estimated to have sprouted in the year 999AD making them about 1000 years old. A distinctive feature of the cypress tree is the "knees" which it grows near its base. The reason for these is not fully understood (according to the signage at the site). It was 15-18 feet around and is located in one of only two sites in NC with original growth trees both of which were donated by the Francis Beidler family. It is hardly a wonder that almost all of the original growth Bald Cypress were cut down many years ago given their size and propensity to grow rather straight.

(Haliaeetus leucocephalus). This young bald eagle was quite unconcerned by me standing at the bottom of his tree!

Enjoying watching the bald eagles hunt along the Haw River in the winter.

A happy Eagle? Why yes, because this mature Bald Eagle just caught a fish in Kachemak Bay, but if you could read into the facial expression, I would say heavens no. But that's the issue with eagles, you can't tell anything from their expression!

Taken 23 March 2022 near Homer, Alaska.

My two bird seasons are hummingbirds and bald eagles and all the other birds I watch are usually a byproduct from watching for them. This mature was fishing the dam to take fish back to her nest.
