The Government House of Baku, also known as House of Government, is a government building housing various state ministries of Azerbaijan. It is located on Neftchiler Avenue and faces the Baku Boulevard. The rear side of the building faces busy Uzeyir Hajibeyov Street of central Baku.
One from the seashore in Baku.
Although the environment looks spotless within the city, alas the shore of the Caspian Sea isn't. Along great stretches of the coastline there is a smell of oil and in some places a thick black sludge can be seen floating in one or two small bays.
The fact that a few seabirds like this Common Tern could be seen quartering the shore does show that there is life in the water (I did see one tern flying with a small fish in its beak). That being said seabirds of any sort were few and far between.
I know that the oil industry in Baku is what has paid for the massive amount of development in the city, but if the authorities are serious about promoting the city as a destination to rival Dubai they really do need to clean up their act when its comes to oil spillages.
Illuminated at night, and Sydney Opera House in style, the Deniz Mall has over 70 shops, restaurants, a cinema, kids play areas and more!
Given Baku’s prominent place in the world of oil and the constant flame visible at all oil refineries it seems quite appropriate that the three buildings (just two are visible here) designed in the shape of flames have acquired the name ‘The Flame Towers’. On a night they are illuminated in such a way that they flicker just like a flame.
The Flame Towers are a striking high-rise complex built between 2007 and 2013.
The three flame-shaped towers are intended to symbolize the elements of fire, and are a reference to Azerbaijan's nickname "The Land of Fire".
The Baku Flame Towers are a striking element in the Baku skyline - inspired by Azerbaijan's long history of fire worship.

Last September Mrs M and i traveled to Azerbaijan for the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Baku and then continued on to Georgia and Armenia. We had a fantastic time.
I've been in such a photography slump that I'm only now going through my images to see if there's anything worthy of an upload.
I'm not entirely happy with this image but hey, at least it's something, right?
A second photo that includes the distinctive 2012 built Flame Towers. This time though the foreground is a small section of the colourful and ultra clean seashore park.
This is probably the image that the city of Baku would like to project to the tourist world. In my mind this view sums up the clean, colourful and safe city. Alas, there is no 'edge' to the city, it doesn't seem to have any grit as it is too polished and smart.
